The New Year season is completed. The intention is always to start it off as positively & smoothly as possible, but things don’t always go as planned. Rhode Island got hit by a historic blizzard with 30+ inches of snow. Snow removal, black ice, and other challenges came up, but didn’t stop us.
Members of our group rallied, were flexible with their time and schedules, and gave a lot of effort and energy. This allowed us to do what matters most: to give to our community by bringing lion dance to them.
We’ve always been a small nonprofit organization, and likely always will be, but we’re big in our willingness to serve. Whatever modest amount we can do for people is possible through teamwork and dedication.
Everyone in RIKFC made meaningful contributions during this busy Lunar New Year season; their efforts for both our group and our community are deeply appreciated.
We’re also grateful for relationships we have with every RIKFC supporter, community partner, friend, and family member, as well as grant makers who believe in us, like NEFA, Mid Atlantic Arts, and Rhode Island Humanities. Whether we see them just once during the New Year season, at other times of the year, or only virtually, these connections are meaningful and sustaining to us.
As lion dance and kung fu practitioners, our intention is what we do benefits not only ourselves, but others as well. We hope that intention was felt and that, in some small way, we helped bring something positive to our community at the start of the New Year.
