Bore da, bawb.

Spring has been here for a week or so now. Why not delve into something a bit springy (or springish?) with the daffodil!

The daffodil! It is a picturesque, colourful spring flower which has adorned many a Welsh garden (and hat) going back centuries.

It became a symbol of Cymru, alongside the leek, in the 19th century. It has since become synonymous with our patron saint, Dewi Sant (hence its use on Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant/Saint David's Day), and can be found at almost any large congregation of Welsh people, from rugby games to the Eisteddfod.

It is believed to have surged in popularity as a result of the only Welsh UK Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, who insisted on the daffodil's use during the investiture of Edward VIII as Prince of Wales on 13 July 1911 at Caernarfon Castle.
