Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce

Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce Poultney is an active and interesting community- a town maintaining its historical charm while quietly blending in modern technology and convenience.

Poultney maintains citizen involvement through both new initiatives and long held traditions. Poultney is located on the Vermont-New York border in the Lakes Region of western Rutland County, about halfway between Rutland, Vermont and Glens Falls, New York. In fact, the southern border between Vermont and New York meets the Poultney River behind the former Green Mountain College. About 3200 people

live in the town, many of them under 18. Poultney has a public elementary school, a small public high school, a small independant school, and a small alternative high school. One informal motto is "Small in size, but big in spirit". Volunteerism is alive and well in Poultney, and many services are provided by those who are looking to be involved, or just "give back" to the community. Major economic drivers in the Poultney area include slate quarrying, light manufacturing, education, recreation, and agriculture. There are many small businesses: brick-and-mortar, online, or a combination of both. New entrepreneurs are always welcome.

Business Spotlight: The Lakeside Country Store

May 2026

Tucked away along the southern shoreline of Lake Bomoseen sits The Lakeside Country Store. New owners, Andrew and Caden have been busy renovating an old favorite. They have made many updates from what used to be Robo’s Creemees & General Store.

Andrew, a graduate of Castleton, fell in love with the area and decided to stay and start a business. When this property came along, he was excited about the possibilities. He also owns the Bomoseen Dog Restaurant next door so it was a great opportunity to have both businesses close together with complimentary offerings.

Caden, who grew up in Poultney, and also graduated from Castleton started his career working for Andrew at his restaurant in Castleton.

The new Lakeside Country Store hopes to be that “in between stop”, a place where customers can purchase general merchandise, grab lunch from the deli or order from their daily specials menu.

A big new attraction of the Lakeside Country Store is their food truck- snack bar. The snack bar will serve burgers, seafood, fried goodies and other tasty treats from 11:00- 8pm daily. Of course, ice cream is always a big hit with soft serve cones and dishes, as well as Gifford’s locally made hard ice cream. Enjoy this family friendly place near the lake to sit, relax and enjoy some delicious food.

Occupying the same space, The Lakeside Country Store offers staples and groceries suitable for campers, weekenders and locals alike. The store shares its site with the adjacent restaurant, The Bomoseen Dog, which includes an outdoor bar. The restaurant’s menu is varied and creative, and has a large selection of Tex-Mex and other dishes. Enjoy activities from line dancing every other Wednesday from 6-8pm, live music on Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday Trivia.

Andrew and Caden look forward to a great fun filled summer showcasing their newly renovated store and snack bar. Stop and visit the adjacent Tex-Mex Bomoseen Dog Restaurant also owned and operated by Andrew and Caden and enjoy their outdoor bar with a unique menu.

Congratulations!
