🕯️ Speaker Spotlight: Fr. Paul Abernathy (Paul Abernathy)

Fr. Paul is the pastor of St. Moses the Black Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, a priest of the Antiochian Archdiocese, and founder and CEO of the Neighborhood Resilience Project, an Orthodox ministry that helps communities heal from trauma. He is also the author of The Prayer of a Broken Heart: An Orthodox Christian Reflection on African American Spirituality.

We’re honored to welcome him to OCP’s Not in Christ’s Name Summit, where he’ll join the panel “Not Their Story to Tell: Reclaiming the Christian Narrative from Christian Zionism.”

In his words:

“There is indeed a Holy Fire in Palestine and the night of Israeli oppression can never overtake it. Through all of the blood, degradation, theft and injustice, Palestinian Christians have carried the fire of Divine love within their hearts. Just as Israeli aggression and oppression has darkened that Holy Land, Palestinians have manifested a Divine Light for all to see, calling the world to peace and justice that can only be established by God’s love and mercy. It is a Holy fire that absolutely has the power to burn sin away. It is in fact the great St. John Chrysostom who said, ‘There is not a single sin which the power of love like fire would not destroy. It is easier for feeble brushwood to withstand a powerful fire than for the nature of sin to withstand the power of love.’”

Come hear Fr. Paul in person. ✝️

The Orthodox Church commemorates the lives of two saints of Palestine today, October 28th: St Stephen the Hymnographer of Mar Saba Monastery (8th c.) and St John of Chozeva, Bishop of Caesarea (6th c.), both shining lights of asceticism and holiness in the unbroken history of Christianity in Palestine since Pentecost. May they intercede for all those suffering occupation, persecution, and genocide now 🙏🏼

📣 Announcing the Not In Christ’s Name Summit’s keynote speaker: John Kiriakou JOHN KIRIAKOU

In 2007, this former CIA intelligence analyst and operations officer became the first U.S. official to publicly confirm and expose the CIA’s use of torture during the war on terror, a stand that cost him his career and drew wide public attention to how far American power reaches unchecked. As a Greek Orthodox voice with firsthand experience inside the machinery of U.S. foreign policy, he brings a rare vantage point on how decisions made in Washington ripple outward into the Middle East. His keynote makes the case for why geopolitics isn’t abstract: American policy has direct consequences for Christians in the Holy Land, and understanding that connection is the first step toward knowing where and how to push for change.

Not Their Story to Tell: Reclaiming the Christian Narrative from Christian Zionism

🗓️ Saturday, Nov 14 · Potomac, MD

If American media and politics are asked who speaks for Christians on Israel and Palestine, the loudest answer is Christian Zionism.

This panel asks how that came to be, and what the Orthodox Christian response should be, bringing together Orthodox priests to provide theological analysis of where Christian Zionism departs from Orthodox faith and a direct answer to what Orthodox Christians should do in response.

✝ Rev. Don Wagner (retired Presbyterian minister; author of numerous books on Christian Zionism) (Virtual)

✝ Rev. Dr. Robert O. Smith (Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago; ELCA Lutheran Minister; scholar of Christian Zionism)

✝ Fr. Michael Azar (priest, Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America; Professor of Theology, University of Scranton; scholar of Orthodox Christian-
Jewish relations)

✝ Fr. Paul Abernathy (Founding Pastor, St. Moses the Black Orthodox Church, Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese, Pittsburgh; Founder & CEO, Neighborhood Resilience Project)

Holy new martyrs of Karak, Jordan, pray for us ☦️

The crime that just took place in Karak, Jordan is another one of ongoing crimes perpetrated against innocent people in Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, indeed the entire region.

While it is easy and tempting to read events as they appear, Christians and Muslims cannot afford to be distracted and fall for these types of underhanded plots. Yes, it is hard, but unity in the face of this sinister effort and as the region braces for the upcoming conflagration, is essential and the only way to confront evil, and know who the real culprits and real enemies are.

What makes this crime different, is its timing and the actors involved (still unconfirmed but even if it was) namely ISIS, which serve an overarching plot designed to justify an upcoming much larger industrial scale slaughter in the name of fighting Islamic terror.

It is not a coincidence that a group of orthodox Christian men are killed by a group of ISIS fanatics, created specifically to perform the role, at the time when the government of Israel announced its mobilization to launch a war in the West Bank, not to bring an end of settlers violence and killing against Palestinian Christians and Muslims alike, but to fight what is described as Islamic terror.

What happened in Karak is nothing but a false flag orchestrated to further divide Arabs in the region while giving Israel a freehand to finally commit atrocities in the West bank similar to ongoing ones in Gaza; ultimately to rid itself of most if not all of the Palestinians Christians and Muslims.  All in the name of fighting Islamic terror and depicting Islam as the villain, especially in the western world where anti Zionism is at an all time high.
