The Potomac Valley Chapter (PVC) Chapter commemorates Juneteenth, the day marking freedom of more than 250,000 enslaved people in Texas, and — in essence — our country’s second Independence Day. As an organization committed to civic engagement as one of many ways we empower our Jacks and Jills to lead with purpose, we reflect on the significance of this day and recommit ourselves to the ongoing fight for freedom and enfranchisement. In the wake of a recent decision by the Supreme Court of the United States in Louisiana v. Callais — which has raised important questions about voting rights, representation, and how district lines are drawn across the country — too much is at stake. PVC remains dedicated to bettering our community and ensuring fair and equal representation for all Americans.

This week in our Potomac Valley Chapter (PVC) Summer Behind-the-Scenes Series, our AMAZING Senior Teen Advisors organized and hosted a “Black Excellence Dinner.” Our PVC Senior Teens enjoyed a family-style, four-course meal where they had the opportunity to fellowship and celebrate the end of the program and school year. 💗💙😎💗💙

The Potomac Valley Chapter (PVC) continued its end of program year giving — making a $7,500 donation to Partner to support Montgomery County students planning to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities. PVC President Verleria King-Jones and PVC Mother and 40th Anniversary Chair Nicole Copeland presented this contribution to Larry Griffith, UNCF Executive Vice President for Programs and Student Services, and PVC Mother and UNCF Assistant Vice President for Foundation & Corporate Relations, Suzanne Rhue Jenkins. We are proud to help advance UNCF’s mission of ensuring all Americans have equal access to a college education that prepares them to be engaged citizens and pursue competitive and fulfilling careers.

As we conclude the 2025-2026 Program Year, we’re kicking off our Potomac Valley Chapter (PVC) Summer Behind-the-Scenes series — sharing snapshots of ICYMI programming and other more informal PVC events. Yesterday, our PVC President Verleria King-Jones, Vice President Sandra Britt, and Immediate Past President LaToya Wilson presented a donation to Jessica Palladino, Head of School, to help support their planned playground renovations. PVC leaders coupled this contribution with a breakfast spread for facility staff and special recognition of
Facilities Manager Gerardo Saucedo. We are deeply appreciative of Mother Kenda Kittrell Chavis for fostering this strategic partnership and for all does in support of our Chapter and the students at the school, including some of our very own Jacks and Jills.

The Potomac Valley Chapter (PVC) closes out the 2025-2026 Program Year thanking our outgoing Senior Teen Officers and Executive Board Members for their dedication over the past one to two years. Their leadership set a powerful example of our shared commitment in action — ensuring that our children and ALL children can grow and thrive in this world. At our last Mother’s Meeting of the 2025-2026 program year, the Potomac Valley Chapter (PVC) celebrated three tenuring Mothers, inducted our new Senior Teen Officers, thanked Executive Board Members whose terms are concluding, and welcomed new Executive Board Members. We also selected the PVC Distinguished Mother of the Year. The 2026 recipient of this honor is our outgoing PVC President, Dr. LaToya Wilson. Channeling the words of PVC Mothers who shared why CP LaToya should receive this distinction — “she exemplifies the elegant, brilliant energy in our chapter and sets an example for Mother Members.” CP LaToya is “grace under fire,” goes above and beyond her duties as Chapter President, and is a fierce advocate for the PVC Chapter. CP LaToya was also commended for guiding PVC through its successful hosting of the 34th Biennial Eastern Region Mothers’ Conference, which took place last summer in Charleston, South Carolina. We salute CP LaToya Wilson and thank her for diligent, patient, and loving leadership of our chapter over the past two years. 🩷💙🩷💙

The Potomac Valley Chapter (PVC) Mothers and Associate Jewels celebrate the tenuring of three dynamic and beloved members — Mothers Karen Borno, Jonice Gray, and Sheryl Wilbon. Mother Karen is a former PVC President and MD/DC Coalition Founders’ Day Chair who has served our chapter with warmth and poise. Mother Jonice provided steadfast guidance as PVC President during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through her role as Protocol Chair, Mother Sheryl has instilled an important sense of tradition among the next generation of PVC leaders. We commend these three Mothers for their leadership, grace, and dedication. They will be missed, but their contributions have left a lasting legacy for PVC. Wishing our 2026 Tenuring Mothers Karen, Jonice, and Sheryl all the best as they bridge to this next journey. Long Live Jack and Jill!

The Positively Vibrant Potomac Valley Chapter closed out the 2025-2026 program year with a successful annual Black Family Day event. We came together as a chapter to celebrate all our families, acknowledge our Jacks and Jills who are moving up to new Grade Groups, and mark the important graduation milestone for our 12 high school seniors. We look forward to continued food, fellowship, and fun throughout the month as we bid a fond farewell to our 3 graduating Mothers.
