Did you know? In addition to its awards for teachers, the Marian Greenblatt Education Fund will award $100 to the PTA of any awardee's school if the PTA is active in the teacher’s nomination process.
In 2019, the Fund awarded $100 to the PTA of Burning Tree Elementary School. In turn, the PTA decided to pass on the contribution to its sister school. “The PTA was thrilled to play a role in recognizing Maura Backenstoe, a beloved teacher who inspires and uplifts students, staff, and parents on a daily basis," said PTA member Alex Robbins. "By honoring Maura’s request to donate the Fund’s $100 to Burning Tree’s sister school, the PTA was able to extend the award’s impact to another school community, an act that encapsulates Maura’s selflessness.”
Applications for the Master Teacher Award and Rising-Star Teacher Award are due the second Friday in January. More information, including application forms, can be found at www.greenblatteducationfund.org.

Congratulations to Mary Pankowski, 2019 winner of the MGEF High School Social Studies award for Rockville High School. Mary was nominated by Ms. Michelle Pettit -- who won the same award in 2000 as a student at Wheaton High School, and went on to become a High School Social Studies teacher!
The MGEF Social Studies Award is given each year to one junior in each Montgomery County public high school. Winners are nominated by their respective schools on the basis of their grades in Social Studies courses, proficiency in research or writing, and involvement in extra-curricular activities and community service.
