Portsmouth Middle School partnered with Eastern RI Conservation District (ERICD) to create a student-led farm.

Started in 2019 by a gift from Martin Beck, students took a barren field and turned into a full scale farm facility with room to grow!

A big thank you to Dawn from Bartlett Tree Experts. She taught us about the science of trees, how trees get sick, and how to help. Our students have the knowledge to help us help the orchard!

Recycling the pumpkins! Our Gaudet students had fun spreading pumpkin seeds in a field that had been mowed down. Thanks to Mrs Toner for giving us the guts of the pumpkins! Let’s see what happens. They also helped with cracking garlic. Next week, we will be planting and prepping our news garlic beds!

Lots of progress at the farm today. Our students worked hard harvesting lettuce, carrots, radishes, and more for our food banks while our student leadership team had a leadership class. A good day was had by all!
