A new, free jazz jam is coming to Montavilla!

Join the Christopher Brown Trio for the first BEHIND THE SCENE Jam Session at Threshold Brewing & Blending. Student musicians are invited to bring their instruments, play alongside professional Portland jazz artists, and connect with other players. Friends, families, and neighbors—come for the music!

This new addition to Montavilla Jazz’s BEHIND THE SCENE program takes learning from the workshop to the jam. At The 1905, students receive direct mentoring from the Christopher Brown Quartet through live performance, Q&A, and hands-on learning. At Threshold, they have a chance to put it all together—trying out ideas, listening to one another, and making music in a welcoming neighborhood setting.
Join us each month:

First Sundays — BEHIND THE SCENE at The 1905
Second Mondays — BEHIND THE SCENE Jam Session at Threshold, 5–7 PM, through December 2026

Original music. New ideas. The next creative moment.

2027 artist submissions are now open.

Montavilla Jazz brings together the legendary locals who set the scene and the emerging artists carrying it forward — artists creating original and new music, celebrating heritage, and breaking new ground.

We’re now looking for the projects and artists who will help shape our 2027 programming.

Montavilla Jazz Festival 2026 is in the books!

Thank you to everyone who came out with a special shout out to those who braved the weather on Sunday. Our annual celebration moves with the belief that the past, present, and future of America’s greatest art form belongs to—and deserves to be enjoyed by—everyone.

This festival is only possible through the collaboration of our artists, staff, crews, sponsors, donors, neighborhood businesses, funders, an army of volunteers, and audience members like you!

Day 2 goes is in the books! With our first festival aerialist, the debut of Mt. Tabor Middle School's Jazz Band at the festival, and Jessie Marquez's incredible guest artists joining for a celebration of Cuban Music, it was a day of discovery in the Jazz Village!
