In case you haven’t heard: starting this year, the City of Portland and Multnomah County will be using ranked choice voting. November 3, 2026 is Election Day! To prepare you to fill out your ballot, we’ve created an example of a ranked choice ballot using pets! Featuring some of our very own pets from Rosewood, our first choice of favorite kind of pets are dogs. We love all pets so each species still got our vote! What’s your favorite kind of pet? What would your ballot look like?

You can find more information about ranked choice voting here: https://multco.us/info/ranked-choice-voting-rcv

Have any plans for Labor Day weekend? We got you!

Join us for our Black Labor Day celebration on Saturday, September 5th at here at The Rosewood Initiative (14127 SE Stark St.) The event will honor Black workers' leadership, history, joy, and contributions to the labor movement locally and nationally.

Co-hosted by Imagine Black Futures, The Rosewood Initiative, and SEIU 503 African American Caucus, we’ll be bringing good vibes all afternoon. There will be free food, music, games, kids' activities, and more. We will also have community organizations tabling to share their resources, and we will be hearing important words from local labor leaders about their work.

This will also be a kick-off event for the Oregon Black Worker Center, a collaborative project between The Rosewood Initiative and Imagine Black Futures. This will be the only worker center in Oregon built explicitly for Black workers. We offer organizing, education, advocacy, and community support, meeting workers where they are with nothing to prove to walk through our door.

The event will be hosted on Saturday, September 5th from 12-4PM outdoors at the Rosewood Initiative (14127 SE Stark St).

You don’t want to miss this! Find more information and RSVP here: https://secure.everyaction.com/TXH-JMedXkS4ol5KudSmyw2

Did you know that East of the Willamette, where 80% of Portlanders live, the tree canopy cover is less than half compared to the west side? Less trees means less shade, poorer air quality and lower quality of life.

That being said, we are helping to give out free trees for your yard. Tell your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors and everyone in between! You do not have to own a home to claim a free tree (as long as your landlord agrees).

Urban Forestry also has free tree programs for businesses and apartment complexes. We just want to increase shade everywhere, especially East Portland.

We've had fun collaborating with this summer to host a Lunch + Play site! Through this partnership, we're able to open our green space to the community every day while also keeping kids fed through the summer months with free lunches. They've led daily activities ranging from board games, to outdoor games, to slime making. Arts in the Park even joined us for a week to lead art projects like clay hand building. Lunch + Play ends on August 21st. Stop by soon to enjoy it before it's gone!

Free Lunch + Play happens Monday - Friday, through August 21st, 10:00am - 2:00pm. Lunch is served 11:45am - 1:15pm!

Election Day is November 3, 2026. That's less than 3 months away!
That being said, please remember that the City of Portland and Multnomah County are now both using ranked choice voting (RCV) for elections.

Don’t worry if you don't know how to fill out your ballot though. We got you! The graphic above shows an example of what Rosewood’s ballot would look like if we were voting for our favorite sport using RCV. Volleyball would be our 1st choice, Football our 2nd, Basketball our 3rd, Tennis 4th choice, Soccer 5th and Baseball would be our least favorite sport.

It is important to note that you do not need to fill out a bubble for each column and row. In this case, if Rosewood only wanted to vote for Volleyball and no other sport, it would be completely fine to do so. You can rank up to 6 or as few as one, it is completely your choice.

Because of the low air quality and heat today, Summer Lunch + Play in our green space will have modified hours. This means that they will only be open for lunch hours, 11:45am - 1:15pm, for grab-and-go lunches. This will likely continue all week, but we will update as needed. If you stop by to get a lunch, you're welcome to come eat it inside our community center. We also have N95 masks for anyone who wants them!
