SoValTi

SoValTi SoValTi is a culturally sensitive social service agency committed to serving African American and biracial individuals in the Portland Metropolitan area.

Our Fatherhood Engagement Group engages fathers in the development of life skills differentiating between the role of a “father” as opposed to the role of a “dad and a Father’s responsibility to be responsible. Emphasis is placed on a father being involved in all facets of a child’s growth and development while expanding their understanding that fatherhood will be the most pleasurable inconvenienc

e they will ever experience. The group process involves lesson and discussion in a structured therapeutic nurturing and supportive environment where fathers receive hands-on instruction and model new parenting ideas. Fathers can ask questions and receive encouragement and support and celebrate successes. The 16-week group meets twice per week. For additional information and fee schedule, please contact us. Our Cultural Sensitivity training encourages individuals to engage in dialogue related to the cultural implications involved when working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Trainings challenge individuals to reflect on personal beliefs, values and attitudes, examine their roles and the skills needed to provide culturally responsive services and highlights best practices for developing and building relationships, while establishing trust. Training length ranges between 90 minutes to a full-day, depending on client need. Training cost is based on size and depth of training. Please contact us for more information. The SoValTi Batterer Intervention Program (BIP) is patterned after Connecticut’s EVOLVE Program for male domestic violence offenders with female victims. This group oriented process focuses on culturally sensitive intervention and prevention strategies which consider culturally heterogeneous intervention approaches, diversity and gender. Groups stress self-examination as a means to uncover abusive behavior. Skill development promotes emotional regulations and quick acceptance of responsibility for the choice to behave abusively. This course is also available to all men who are interested in exploring the issue of violence against women and how they can change their abusive and violent behaviors. In addition, we provide crisis intervention for clients. Group schedule: clients attend 52 weekly classes, 2 hours per week. For more information and fees, please contact us. Our therapists will consult with the referral source to arrange the details of the service, such as number of hours/week, visit location, etc. After 3-4 visits, the therapist will develop a treatment plan in conjunction with the referral source and the parent. Types of services includes: teaching the parent(s) the unique needs of the children, using approaches that meet the parent’s own style; helping the parent understand the child’s needs and/or diagnoses and how these needs may develop in the future; teaching the parent(s) to interact with the child during visitation based on the child’s developmental and emotional needs; teaching the parent(s) unique approaches to deepen bonds with the child. Minimum of 12 sessions required. For more information and cost, please contact us.
