Today we’d like to recognize someone who has become an incredibly important part of Wildlings Forest Animal Sanctuary.
Just over a year ago, on June 1st, Izzy officially stepped into the role of our on-site animal caregiver. Before that, she was already a dedicated volunteer, but over the past year she has truly gone above and beyond in ways that have made a lasting impact on both the sanctuary and our residents.
Having someone living on-site has given us something we didn’t have before: peace of mind. Because Daniel and I both work away from home, it is an incredible relief to know that there is usually someone here if a resident needs help or an emergency arises. It has also allowed us to step away when necessary, knowing the animals are in capable and caring hands.
Izzy has helped improve the quality of life for so many of our residents through her daily observations, attention to detail, and commitment to their care. One of the most valuable systems she implemented was a shared note process that allows us to communicate about resident health and behavior changes every day. It has been an amazing tool for making sure nothing slips through the cracks.
Over the past year, she’s helped with medical procedures, picked up critical supplies and food when needed, participated in rescue efforts, and consistently stepped up whenever extra hands were needed. On top of all of that, she started school online while living here, balancing her studies with the demands of sanctuary life.
More recently, her boyfriend Jake joined her here. With both of them bringing veterinary technician experience, their support has been incredibly valuable when residents need medical care or we find ourselves in one of the many situations that require extra help.
Sanctuary work takes a village, and we are so grateful that Izzy chose to be part of ours. Thank you for your hard work, your compassion, your dedication to the residents, and for everything you do behind the scenes that so often goes unseen.
