Today we celebrated one of our own and their SIX YEARS in recovery! ❤️

We shared about the power of community and what it means to keep showing up for one another. It was a beautiful day on the waterfront.

And the coolest part is that everyone has great shoes to walk and run in! Making movement accessible to our team is what it’s all about.

A FULL-CIRCLE PARTNERSHIP.

We’re excited to welcome Volunteers of America Oregon Outpatient Services as the newest partner of Go The Distance!

Our Board President, Michael Hovey, is the Peer Program Manager at Volunteers of America and has been a strong supporter of the Go The Distance mission since we were founded in 2019.

And now, Valerie Martinez, a mentor at VOA and a Go The Distance graduate, will be helping us lead runs with VOA’s outpatient participants.

Valerie knows firsthand what it means to take those steps in recovery. Now she gets to help others take theirs.

Two awards given to Melinda and Mark. They earned their new shoes today by showing up and being part of our team. Way to go the distance! Thank you On for the support. Please join us in welcoming our newest Go The Distance board member, Leslie Johnson!

Leslie is passionate about being a person in long-term recovery and helping others find their own path to recovery.

A graduate of the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!), Leslie spent 20 years as a social worker with the State of Oregon before moving into the recovery field, where she could focus on helping people struggling with addiction.

For the past 10 years, Leslie has been part of the CODA INC team, where she currently serves as Director of Residential Programs.

Through her work, Leslie has seen firsthand how Go The Distance helps people in substance use disorder treatment build confidence, connection, and a sense of community through walking and running.

We are so excited to have Leslie bring her experience, passion, and perspective to the GTD board. Welcome, Leslie!

Fletcher stopped by today to volunteer to help get our loaner shoes out of boxes, labeled, and on the shelves. We went through hundreds of used shoes and got them organized and ready to give to patients in treatment centers so they can walk and run with GTD. With over 200 individuals a week we take out, these shoes donated by our community are essential to those who don’t have adequate foot wear to support them for exercise. Thank you Fletcher and everyone for supporting us and our community.

Today we’re celebrating a huge milestone for one of our amazing Run Leaders, Isabelle, 10 years clean and sober!

In Isabelle’s own words:

“Recovery has given me a life beyond my wildest dreams. I can do hard things without crumbling and dying. I can feel joy!

What’s kept me sober these last ten years are sober connection, friends and communities (like GTD) to do fun things with and get support when I need it. My higher power. Something I can always lean on. LOTS of therapy, spiritual programs and self love.

Never underestimate the power of asking for help and connecting with another person in recovery. It will save your life.

I’m so grateful for recovery and for all the amazing communities I’ve found along the way.”

Isabelle now gets to be that connection for others as a GTD Run Leader, showing up each week and helping build the same kind of community that has been so important in her own recovery.

We’re incredibly grateful to have her on our team and proud to celebrate this milestone with her.

What an AMAZING energy we felt on Sunday at the GTD 5K!
Thank you to everyone who came out and made the day so special.
Having our partnered treatment centers, local businesses, community partners, supporters, and the Federal Courthouse all there made this event truly incredible.
We are so grateful for every runner, walker, and volunteer who showed up and made this day possible.
