💙 We Are Wednesday: Meet Nathalie! 💙

As our Web Master & Accessibility Coordinator, Nathalie has spent 13 years helping ensure KRESA information is clear, accessible, and easy to navigate for everyone.

Her days are anything but routine, moving between website updates, accessibility improvements, and designing materials like reports and presentations. What she values most is creating work that makes information more usable and supports students, educators, and families across our community.

Over the years, Nathalie has seen the Communications team grow into a larger, more connected group focused on better serving others especially through increased accessibility and multilingual resources.

For Nathalie, the work is about more than design. It’s about removing barriers and helping every student succeed. And one of her favorite moments? Hearing how recent website and branding updates have made things easier to navigate and more cohesive for the people we serve.

Our West Campus learners brought their field trip inspiration full circle! 🎨✨

After exploring a local art museum, students returned to the classroom ready to create. From carefully displayed pieces to thoughtful details, they stepped into the role of both artist and curator, proudly showcasing their work.

Families were then invited in to tour the exhibit, making the experience even more special. There’s nothing quite like seeing the pride on students’ faces as they shared their artwork and watched loved ones take it all in it was a moment they truly treasured. 🖌️💛

It’s always exciting to see learners connect real-world experiences with hands-on creativity building confidence, expression, and a deeper appreciation for the arts along the way.

Learning by doing at the Kalamazoo Nature Center! 🌿💧

Students in our Career & Technical Education (CTE) Conservation Biology program spend their class time throughout the year at the Heronwood Field Station.

This past month, they dove into water quality and local ecosystems, rolling up their sleeves to pull up invasive species, dig up pond lily pad roots, and test water quality in local streams.

WoodsEdge students brought the sparkle and the style to prom! ✨

From getting dressed up and glammed up to hitting the dance floor, it was an evening full of laughter, confidence, and celebration. Our DJ kept the energy high, and students danced the afternoon away.

A special thank you to our Kalamazoo RESA Career Connect Culinary students for providing delicious snacks that kept everyone fueled for the fun your hard work made the night even sweeter! 🍪

Books, beats, and big learning moments 📚🎶

Our students love to read and they love to boogie! Whether they’re turning pages or moving to the music, they’re building important skills while having fun.
In between all that joy, they’re also learning something powerful: how to pause and notice their breathing. Taking a few slow, deep breaths helps children feel calm, focused, and ready to learn giving them a simple tool they can use anytime they need it.

From Storytime to dance time, every moment is a chance to grow. We’re so proud of the way our students are learning to listen to their bodies, support their feelings, and shine in their own way 💛

🎉Celebrating the creative minds of our Career Champions! 👏

Our Innovation Showcase spotlighted their latest projects that connect educators and community partners to build meaningful career programs for students of all ages.

From career fairs and lemonade stands, to mock interviews and wax museums, they shared the innovative ways they engaged students to get them excited and talking about what's possible in their future!

Our participants represent Kalamazoo Public Schools, Parchment School District, Comstock Public Schools, Vicksburg Community Schools, Schoolcraft Community Schools, Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools, and our specialized Climate Careers and Multilingual Learners teams.

We can't wait to see what the 2026-27 cohort creates!

💙 We Are Wednesday 💙

This week, we’re shining a light on Desirae Green, Associate Teacher at KRESA, who has dedicated over seven years to supporting young learners and their families.
Desirae’s days are full and fast-paced preparing materials, setting up activities, and making sure everything is ready for students to learn and grow. What keeps her grounded is the joy she finds in the little moments: the hugs, smiles, laughter, and those exciting breakthroughs when children discover something new.

Her journey with KRESA began as a volunteer, and it didn’t take long for her to realize this work was exactly where she belonged. Desirae values the strong sense of connection within her classroom community, where teachers, family advocates, and families come together to support each child.

One moment that has stayed with her over the years? A young student who, after a challenging transition to school, began arriving each day with a smile and started calling Desirae “mama.” That bond, built on trust and care, continues to hold a special place in her heart.
