We regularly hear local stories of individuals struggling to be diagnosed appropriately. This is some great information about the diagnostic process and why it is so important. It can be so tempting to skip things, but having solid answers can make a huge difference.

Do blood tests and endoscopies really matter if you feel better following a gluten free diet? I share 5 reasons in my blog post why an accurate Celiac diagnosis is important.

There is a lot of research on finding a way to test for Celiac Disease without gluten ingestion, but they're not fully validated yet. For example, IL-2 testing is very promising.

In the end your health and your diet is your own decision. My goal in this post is to help you think about critically about the options you have.

Join us this Tuesday, January 13th, 2026 from 7-8pm for our monthly Kalamazoo Area Celiac Support Group meeting. Our meeting location is at The Cellar at 328, which is inside the Jaqua Realtors building located at 328 West Milham in Portage. Our meeting space is available to us until 9pm, so anyone wanting to stay to chat after the meeting is welcome to do so.

New attendees are always welcome to our meetings, so please feel free to invite a friend or come for the first time. If you know someone who might like to attend, please tell them about our group.

Our meetings are fairly informal unless we have a guest speaker, so please feel free to come late or leave early if necessary.

Children are welcome at meetings if you prefer to bring them or you don't have alternate childcare. They can sit with parents or you can bring activities they could do in a separate section of the same room. If you let me know ahead of time, I could bring some childrens activities or potentially make sure a similarly aged child attends as well.

We have heard from multiple members that the Gluten Free Cheez Its have become available at local stores, but it seems most stores are sold out already. To add to that, many people are reselling for as much as $20 a box. Please try to be patient and try to support smaller brands until you are able to purchase them at a store to help discourage this type of behavior. MI Gluten Free Gal has some great suggestions for alternatives while you wait.

Miss Cheez-Its? Many companies make gluten free cheese crackers to help satisfy that craving. I'm also including recipes you can make at home

We have a few topic we plan to cover (unless there is no interest in a topic from attendees):
*Is there interest in a teen group meeting at the same time as adults or in a separate teen group on another day/time
*What we can do to help individuals facing food insecurity on a gluten free diet
*Thanksgiving recipes and tips/tricks to get through the holidays on a gluten free diet
*What our group can do to help each other and what ways attendees would like to help

If you are unable to attend, but you have input or comments, please let us know.

Is there any interest in a tween/teen meet-up at our meeting next month? Our meeting space can be divided into two spaces, so adults can meet on one side with the tweens/teens on the other side. We are also taking requests for any other special meeting topics or special meetings types.
