As our club has done for the past seven weeks, we staffed our Free Book Table at the Pomona Concert Band’s summer concert series on Thursday night at the Palomares Park Community Center. Lion (and Pomona City Councilmember) Steve Lustro MC’d Thursday’s concert. The book table enjoyed good traffic by concertgoers before the event and during intermission!

At our August in-person meeting, we were honored to host District 4-L4 Governor Marianne Allen and her Cabinet for lunch, along with Dorsie and Tommye from the Diamond Bar Breakfast Lions Club. At the meeting, three Lions were presented with chevrons for years of service to the club - Ben Selters for 40 years, Steve Storbakken for 15 years, and Tahir Khan for 10 years. Thank you all for joining us for updates on District events and good conversation!

For several years, our club has set up a free book table in conjunction with the Pomona Concert Band's Summer Series at the G. Stanton Selby Bandshell at historic Ganesha Park. However, the 70-year-old bandshell was recently identified with structural issues and has necessarily been red-tagged. After some last-minute coordination with the City of Pomona, the concert series was moved to the Palomares Park Community Center. Desiring to continue to be a part of the concert series, a spot was identified in the Community Center foyer for us to set up our table and continue our tradition. The free book table gets traffic before the concerts begin and during each week's intermission.

The Pomona Concert Band, which is in its 79th season, annually performs an eight-week concert series during the summer. The concerts take place every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. between now and August 27 at the Palomares Park Community Center, 499 E. Arrow Highway, Pomona. Admission and parking are free!

The Pomona Unified School District (PUSD) Family Support and Resource Center assists homeless students and their families with basic daily needs year-round. However, during the summer break, supplies for families become thin. To that end, several of our club members recently collected and donated essentials to the Center to help it get over the summer "hump." Thank you to those Lions who donated and to President WendyAnn Stuard and Lion Bob Stuard for delivering the donations!

Last week, Lion Anne Henderson received the 2025-26 Service Center One Community Outreach Action Team (COAT) Award from the Associated Pomona Teachers. The award recognizes community members who understand and support the many activities that take place in the classrooms. The award is very well-deserved and recognizes one of the many ways Anne continues to serve, not only the Pomona Host Lions, but the entire Pomona community, especially its children.

Congratulations, Anne!
