Tress Belesi in the last few weeks has watched a young wheelchair-user explore a park trail for the first time, a young couple with disabilities experience their first park date and a woman with limited mobility spot may apples in nature for the first time in more than a decade.

The day has finally come! 🥳Our electric-powered all-terrain wheelchairs are finally available for public use at the Frick Environmental Center !

Our reservation system opens today at pittsburghparks.org/trackchair-program/. Trackchairs are available to reserve Friday-Sunday (May-October) for two-hour time slots and must be reserved in advance. Reservations will become available on a rolling basis, so check back regularly.

Ready to try golf or develop some key skills?

The Western Pennsylvania Golf Association and Special Olympics are teaming up to host the first event of the 2026 All Abilities Golf Clinics!

Whether you are trying golf for the first time or looking to improve your skills, this event is designed for all athletes, including those learning to golf, adaptive golfers, and people with special needs.

Professional instructors will be there to help you learn new skills, build confidence, and enjoy the game with others in the community!

Three weeks after the United States beat Canada in the Olympic ice hockey finals, the Americans overcame their neighbors again to win Paralympic gold and complete the three-peat at Milan Cortina.

Jack Wallace scored a hat trick to help the U.S. beat Canada 6-2 in Sunday's Para ice hockey final and become the first nation to sweep the hockey tournaments at the Olympics and Paralympics.

At first glance, it looked like any other Saturday gaming meetup: players locked into intense matchups, the familiar click-click of controllers and the kind of competitive smack talk that could make even a seasoned Twitch streamer proud.

But a closer look revealed something you wouldn’t find at just any tournament — controllers customized with switches, mouth-operated joysticks and other adaptive equipment designed to help players game in whatever way works best.

As any parent of a video gamer would recognize, Jackson Beck’s attention was split between the hockey match on the screen in front of him and his dad, who was peppering him with questions.

A 4th grader at Baker Elementary School in Upper St. Clair, Jackson was facing off against Cooper Mangini, 11, of Bethel Park. The friends, who both use wheelchairs, were battling back and forth Feb. 14 during a match on the PlayStation 5 game NHL 25 during the monthly Empowered Esports gaming event, for players with physical challenges.
