Our Program Director, Pauline Ringeisen Spring. attended the Global Problems, Global Solutions conference on Friday called "Global Crossroads: Migration, Justice and Hope in Pittsburgh". The keynote speaker was Jaime Martinez, the founder of Frontline Dignity, who showed up, despite leading a week-long walk from Pittsburgh to Moshannon Detention Facility near Philipsburg! (No, this was not his lesser known twin, Ramon!) The panel was top notch, including Sister Vanderneck of Casa San José, Ryan Driscoll, an immigration lawyer, and sister Bisbey, Provincial of the Sisters of Divine Providence. Breakout sessions, the refugee immersion experience and networking were great.
While I was here, four members of our Steering Committee were walking to Moshannon with Frontline Dignity. THRIVEPittsburgh is committed to supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in our city.

THRIVEPittsburgh Refugee Outreach and La Roche University have formed a partnership to provide opportunities for our immigrant families. On Friday, we saw a basketball game and had dinner at the University. This is the second event we have co-sponsored with LaRoche. We joined with two other refugee families and their sponsor, as well as LaRoche students who were our hosts. Afterwards, we had dinner together in the university cafe. They especially enjoyed the all-you-can-eat ice cream! Our family loved it - such a great opportunity!

With cuts in services and supports for refugees and asylum seekers, your help is needed to provide for various types of needs: ALDI gift cards to help with decreased or eliminated SNAP benefits, Amazon gift cards to help with household and baby items not covered by SNAP, bus transportation and furniture/household goods delivery for those whose dollars cannot stretch far enough to afford basic needs.
