Strong communities start with children who feel safe, supported, and heard.

When children have a CASA volunteer advocating for their best interests, the impact reaches far beyond a single case. It shows up in stronger educational outcomes, greater stability, and brighter futures.

These outcomes remind us that investing in children today creates healthier communities for tomorrow.

Today, we celebrate the nonprofits working every day to strengthen our communities and the people who make that work possible.

At Central SD CASA, our mission is simple but powerful: to promote and protect the best interests of children involved in abuse and neglect cases through the advocacy of trained volunteers.

If you'd like to support our mission this National Nonprofit Day, consider making a donation. Every gift, big or small, helps us continue giving children a voice when they need it most.

One of the most meaningful parts of being a CASA volunteer is providing consistency during a time of uncertainty.

CASA volunteers typically remain with a child until their case is resolved. While caregivers, schools, or circumstances may change, a CASA volunteer remains a steady advocate focused on the child's best interests every step of the way.

That consistency helps build trust, ensures the child's voice continues to be heard, and provides valuable insight throughout the life of the case.

Meet Virgena Wieseler, President of the Central SD CASA Board of Directors! πŸ‘‹

With more than 40 years of experience working with children and families, Virgena brings an incredible depth of knowledge and dedication to our mission. After retiring from the South Dakota Department of Social Services, she saw Central SD CASA as an opportunity to continue making a difference for children and families in a new way.

Her hope for the future? To recruit enough CASA volunteers so that every child or sibling group involved in the Sixth Circuit Court System can have an advocate by their side. πŸ’™

We’re grateful for Virgena’s leadership, experience, and continued commitment to helping children in our communities!

Advocacy doesn't stop at the courtroom.

Strong advocacy also means ensuring CASA programs have the resources they need to continue serving children experiencing abuse and neglect.

As part of the federal appropriations process, the National CASA/GAL Association is advocating for $12.5 million in Department of Justice fundingβ€”a critical investment that helps CASA programs recruit, train, and support volunteers across the country.

When communities invest in child advocacy, they're investing in safer, stronger futures for children who need it most.

πŸŽ’πŸ“š New backpacks, fresh notebooks, and a new school year bring excitement, but for children in foster care, they can also bring uncertainty.

One consistent, caring adult can make all the difference.

CASA volunteers provide encouragement, stability, and advocacy, helping children feel supported both in and out of the classroom. As a new school year begins, every child deserves someone in their corner, cheering them on every step of the way.

Ready to make a lasting impact? Learn how you can become a CASA volunteer and help a child start the school year with confidence.

Get involved today!
