Every great hunt starts with good habitat. Help us build it.
👉 sdhabitatfund.com/donate Your donation will bring us closer to our goal.

The Second Century Habitat Fund is a nonprofit 501 c3 corporation who advocates for habitat stewardship, collaborates with community partners and strives to be conservation leaders to benefit all of South Dakota. Pheasant hunting is a deep-rooted tradition in South Dakota, and one that South Dakota is known for as a premier destination. But, in order to be the leader and maintain high pheasant numbers, we need to focus on developing new pheasant habitat. The Second Century Habitat Fund has the vision to restore and retain pheasant habitat development while providing awareness to the importance of sustaining South Dakota’s strong outdoor heritage of pheasant hunting for future generations. Our goal is putting seed in the ground and assisting landowners with planting marginal acres to grasslands for wildlife habitat. In 2020, the Working Lands Habitat program was able to assist private landowners with seeding over 5000 acres to perennial grass. We need your help to be successful in keeping the South Dakota pheasant hunting heritage alive. You can be a part of this important movement with us by donating to the Second Century Habitat Fund.

Last year, hunters harvested 1.35 million pheasants — the highest harvest in 14 years — along with nearly 55,000 grouse across the state. And according to South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks’ newly released 2026 Upland Outlook, conditions are pointing toward another great upland season.

A mild winter, near-normal spring conditions and timely summer rainfall have helped create favorable grassland habitat across much of South Dakota’s pheasant range.

And that’s the part we love to hear. 🌾

Healthy bird populations don’t happen by accident. They start with habitat: grass on the landscape for nesting, brood-rearing, winter cover and everything in between. Every acre restored, retained and managed today helps protect South Dakota’s outdoor heritage for generations to come.

Here’s to another great fall in South Dakota and to the landowners, conservation partners and supporters who help make it possible.

Habitat today. Pheasants tomorrow.

The Can-Am Defender for Habitat Raffle is about more than winning a great machine—it’s about putting more habitat on the ground across South Dakota.

The Second Century Habitat Fund works alongside landowners and conservation partners to restore and retain grasslands that benefit pheasants, wildlife, producers, and South Dakota’s outdoor heritage. Every raffle ticket purchased helps support that work by providing funding for habitat projects and programs that make conservation a practical option for landowners.

For just $50 per ticket, supporters have the opportunity to win a Can-Am Defender while helping create a lasting impact on South Dakota’s landscape.

It’s a simple way for hunters, outdoor enthusiasts, businesses, and conservation supporters to give back to the places and traditions that make South Dakota special.

We invite you to help us spread the word, share the raffle with your customers, members, employees, and friends, and join us in investing in the future of South Dakota habitat.

Buy a ticket. Support habitat. Protect the tradition.
