Dolly Parton grew up in a small home in the Smoky Mountains, one of 12 children. Her family didn’t have much, but Dolly has often shared how much a book meant to her as a child—and how her father, who could not read or write, inspired her to make sure other children had opportunities he never had.

That childhood experience became the heart behind the Dolly Parton Imagination Library: a simple belief that every child deserves the chance to dream, to imagine, and to discover what’s possible through a book.

For years, Gary and Connie have been helping carry Dolly’s dream forward right here in our communities.

Because of their incredible generosity, children receive books month after month—books that may become treasured childhood memories, bedtime stories shared with a parent, or the very first step toward a lifelong love of reading.

Gary and Connie, thank you for believing in Dolly’s dream and for helping make that dream a reality for children in our community.

As Dolly herself has said, “You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children.”

Thank you for helping us do just that.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, 694 children in Hughes, Stanley and surrounding communities find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.

A Celebration of Community & Impact! What a special evening celebrating the Let Freedom Fly Endowment for Capital Area United Way! ❤️💙

We are so grateful for the incredible community of supporters, Airshow Committee members, partner agencies, board members, and friends who came together to celebrate what is possible when we invest in our community.

The Let Freedom Fly Endowment is creating lasting impact—helping Capital Area United Way strengthen our local partner agencies, expand opportunities, and ensure that more resources can go directly toward meeting needs in our community. This is about building something that will continue making a difference for years to come.

One of the evening’s most meaningful highlights was recognizing Jim and Kathy for the countless hours, talents, leadership, and dedication they have poured into putting on a world-class air show for our community. Their commitment and generosity have helped create an event that brings people together and makes an impact far beyond the skies above us. ✈️❤️

We were also honored to celebrate them with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of artwork created and gifted by John Mollison—artist, writer, and filmmaker. The artwork is a special tribute to Jim and Kathy and the incredible legacy they have helped create.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. This is what happens when a community comes together—celebration becomes impact, generosity becomes legacy, and together, we create a stronger future.
