🚨 FREE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY 🚨
Next week, March 4-6, the Nonprofit Marketing Summit: EVOLVE is happening online, bringing together experts in fundraising, marketing, donor engagement, and nonprofit tech. If you attend live, it’s completely free—otherwise, there’s an on-demand option available for $500.

Sessions that might be particularly helpful for small nonprofits include:
• “How To Use Your CRM (or spreadsheets) To Better Steward Donors” – Get practical tips for organizing donor data, tracking giving history, and making your CRM (or even just a spreadsheet!) work for you.
• “Turning Data into Donor Connection” – Learn how to segment your donors in a way that makes outreach easier and more effective.
• “AI for Nonprofit Marketing Campaigns” – Curious about how AI can help you save time with marketing and communications? This session walks through real use cases.
• “Storytelling in Action: How Nonprofits Use Email Marketing to Drive Impact” – See examples of small nonprofits using emails that actually work to engage donors.
• “The Minimalist Marketer: How Nonprofits Can Do More with Less” – Ideal for teams that don’t have a full-time marketing person but still need to get the word out.

This morning, HB 1089 will be heard in the House Appropriations Committee. This bill would allocate $616,000 annually to provide free school meals for kids eligible for reduced-price lunches—ensuring our most vulnerable students don’t go hungry.

HB 1074 and 1075 will be on the Senate Floor on Tuesday, clarifying the birth certificate and non-driver ID requirements for the homeless.

Please reach out to SDNN if you have questions on how to advocate for these bills!

BREAKING NEWS: U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan extended a block on President Trump’s widespread federal funding pause. Judge AliKhan ordered the administration to stop its freeze on federal assistance, and allow aid to nonprofits.

In her ruling, AliKhan stated "Each day that the pause continues to ripple across the country is an additional day that Americans are being denied access to programs that heal them, house them, and feed them. Because the funding freeze threatens the lifeline that keeps countless organizations operational, Plaintiffs have met their burden of showing irreparable harm."

Thank you to the National Council of Nonprofits for advocating on behalf of nonprofits across the country.

The South Dakota Housing Development Authority presented their budget at the legislature. Many nonprofits in South Dakota deliver housing services and rely on support from our legislature to help promote fair and affordable housing. A link to their presentation can be found at https://shorturl.at/b4KXE

The state Childcare Workforce Study is available and contains data regarding childcare throughout the entire state of SD. Many nonprofits provide childcare services, and parents rely on these services to contribute to the South Dakota workforce. A link to the study can be found here https://shorturl.at/wzu7s
Please DM us if you have any questions regarding nonprofits and the legislature!
