The Philadelphia Immigration Court sits on the corner of 9th and Market. Maybe you've walked by it without even noticing. Meanwhile, inside the courthouse, the deck is stacked against immigrant children, whose fates are decided by partisan judges employed by the DOJ.
Nationwide, asylum denials reached 94% in August -- not because 94% of asylum claims were invalid, but because the game is literally rigged. Similarly, removal orders in Pennsylvania have risen by 66% -- again, not because immigrants don't qualify for status, but because the system is being weaponized against them.
For example, many judges are ordering the deportation of kids awaiting their green cards via Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, bypassing the clear intent of Congress to protect abused, abandoned, and neglected children. It's nonsensical to deport children with a clear path to citizenship simply because of backlogs beyond their control.
Every day, we stand beside immigrant children in immigration court, defending them within this absurd system and ensuring they don't face a judge in an unfair system by themselves.
