Today, we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day by celebrating Indigenous communities, cultures, languages, and resilience.

We recognize the Indigenous immigrant youth and families we serve, including members of Maya communities whose languages and identities deserve to be respected and celebrated. ❤️

Did your family really “come here legally”? A historian looks at the actual rules, 1803 to 1929.

At Ellis Island, where about 40% of Americans have an ancestor, the rules were a health check and a questionnaire the shipping company filled out for you. No English. No papers. 98 out of 100 walked in.

Crossing the border didn’t become a crime until 1929. Your great-grandparents couldn’t break a law that was never meant for them.

From my book, White Supremacy: A Short History (Cambridge University Press, 2026).

Happy National Coming Out Day! 🏳️‍🌈🌈

At Project Libertad, we celebrate LGBTQ+ youth and affirm their right to live safely, authentically, and without fear.

We stand especially with LGBTQ+ immigrant and asylum-seeking youth, who face persecution for who they are and deserve safety, dignity, and support.

You belong. You deserve safety. You deserve to be yourself. ❤️
