The Sparrow Fund

The Sparrow Fund We envision a world filled with families where each person can grow, heal past hurts, and experience hope together.

We learn who we are and how the world works through relationships, and hurts experienced in the context of relationships are healed in the context of relationships. That's behind all we do—Sparrow Services Grants, Sparrow Counseling, our Together Called marriage retreats, and trainings for caregivers both in our neighborhood and on the other side of the world. Motivated by our own experience of re

lationship, we seek to magnify good already there and winsomely draw others to more deeply experience connection and grasp that they matter, that they are valuable, and that someone outside themselves is for them. When we encourage, equip, and empower caregivers, we can transform relationships within families and communities.

We started June looking for 10 people who want to start to give monthly to support adoptive and foster families.

No new partners have joined us yet - and that's okay. We’ll keep putting the invite out there. If you've seen it already and have been sitting with it, we wanted to show up in your feed today and say: today is a good day to say yes.

Adoptive and foster families are doing hard, beautiful work — navigating systems, healing hurts, building new things together. They need people in their corner — not just once, but consistently. That’s what we do, and that's what our monthly giving partners do. Together, we say to families, “you’re not in this alone” today, next month, and the one after that.

The Sparrow Fund team walks alongside these families because people like you decide to show up, faithfully, month after month.
Monthly giving starts at any amount (really).

A new study just confirmed what we pour ourselves into every day. 💛

Researchers looked at data from nearly 19 million adults and found that positive childhood experiences — things like safe and supportive relationships, stable environments, and opportunities to grow — can dramatically reduce the lifelong impact of childhood trauma.

How dramatically? Adults with high levels of positive childhood experiences were 62% less likely to report depression and 37% less likely to report cancer or stroke — regardless of their experience of early trauma.

The care that adoptive and foster families offer children matters so, so much. Every “I’m so glad you told me that.” Every “I hear you.” Every “I enjoy you.” Every “that makes sense to me.” Every time a child feels seen and loved — it's not just good parenting. It's medicine.

Every June, we run a campaign to grow our community of monthly giving partners. This year, we're hoping to add 10 new partners by July 1st.

If you've been with us for a while, you know what monthly giving makes possible. It's the funding we can count on that allows us to walk alongside adoptive and foster families through ongoing care, therapy, grants, community, and retreats — about 200 families a year. Consistent, faithful support changes what we're able to do.

This June, we're asking two things of you.

First — would you consider becoming a monthly giving partner if you aren't one already? Every amount matters, and we'd love to have you in that circle.

Second — do you know someone in their 20s or 30s who might be looking for somewhere meaningful to build a practice of generosity? Someone who wants to connect with something, not just give to something? We'd love an introduction.

We're grateful for every one of you who has shown up for this work.

This week, when a 10-year-old adopted as a newborn bravely asked what he had long been wondering about his last moments with his birth mother — “Did she kiss me?” — his mom was right there to respond — “Yes, yes…she held you, she fed you a bottle, and she kissed you, yes.”

We don’t always have the answers. And, sometimes, what we do know feels very hard to share.

In this place, we work together to build a shared language so that children better understand their stories and parents can join them in navigating it every step of the way.

We offer specialized clinical services that help parents and children experience deeper connection and heal together through expert, trauma-responsive, relationship-centered care. We invite you reach out if you want to explore how we might help you.

We have big news to share — Together Called 2027 is officially on the calendar!

March 12–14, 2027 | Bear Creek Mountain Resort, Berks County, PA

Every year, we have the joy of gathering adoptive and foster couples for a weekend away — away from the demands of daily life and into a space designed just for them. Together Called is a place to breathe, to connect with your spouse, and to gather with people walking similar paths.

The weekend is grounded in Christian faith and open to all. You can expect generous hospitality, shared meals, thoughtful sessions, and worship — all held in a beautiful setting in the mountains.

Spots are limited to 100 couples, and registration fills fast every year.

📅 Registration opens Monday, October 19 at 8:30 PM

If you’ve been before, you already know. If you’ve been thinking about it, this is your year. Save the date, and share this with a couple who needs a weekend like this.

We can’t wait to be together!

Nearly 4 years ago, this family joined our Family Care Program. A little over 2 years ago, they graduated after adopting their daughter from Taiwan and being home with her for a full year. Since then, they’ve kept doing the hard, beautiful work of building their family together. Today, they drove 2 hours just to stop by and say hello.

And, it was so nice. They reminded us that this work matters — not because we do anything extraordinary, but because adoptive and foster families need people in their corner who will show up for them and stay there. We are so glad we got to be their people.

They encouraged us as much as we ever encouraged them.

To every family who has welcomed us to walk alongside you — thank you. You are why we do this. 🤍

We’ve seen what happens when families have support that lasts beyond paperwork, placements, and adoption finalization.

Your donor-advised fund can help provide counseling support, connection, resources, and care to families navigating the lifelong journey of adoption and foster care.

If you’re considering where to direct your DAF giving, we’d be honored to be part of your generosity and investment in generational impact.

There’s a thrill of hope and great expectation today as one of our Family Care Program families is leaving home in Virginia for India to meet the little boy who is becoming part of their family. Pray for abundant opportunities in their first days together for this mom and dad to show this little boy that they are safe and willing and able to care for him. Pray for their little girl who is very excited to become a big sister to understand his needs enough and extend grace to him. Pray too for the nannies who have cared for him for this season to experience joy in his adoption that affirms them in the role they play for children. And, pray for this precious 15-month-old child as he experiences a big goodbye and a big, new beginning.

Every year, we offer a scholarship to a Phoenixville Area High School senior who wants to carry trauma-sensitive, relationship-centered care into their field — whatever that field may be. It’s one small way to extend our mission and encourage the next generation to prioritize people with us.

One particular applicant caught our attention. Out of her own experiences of foster care and adoption, Imani Brubaker has spent her life noticing how trauma shapes people — physically, emotionally, and relationally — and asking what it looks like to help them heal. She’s heading to Temple University this Fall to build her own educational path integrating kinesiology, psychology, and social work so that she can help people, in her own words, “live their lives to the fullest.”

We are so glad she’s going to. Please join us in congratulating Imani on this award and for reaching the milestone of graduating high school!

We’re cheering for you, Imani!

We love the heart of Generous Life. Committed to empowering people to connect, give boldly, and transform lives, they offer experiences free from pressure where high-capacity givers can connect deeply to one another and to the causes they love.

And, they invited us to join them for one of those experiences.

Our cofounder and Executive Director Kelly Raudenbush and friend and supporter Andy Thrift were invited to be part of an open, hope-filled conversation about foster care and adoption, specifically to share their own experiences around care for adopted and foster children and the grownups around them.

Along with leaders from The Forgotten Initiative, Foster the Family, Foster Well, and Bethany Christian Services, Kelly and Andy reminded attendees that what are often referred to as systems are made up of people and that we can make a way for transformational impact on and for those people together.
