On June 1, opening day at First Church UCC, we were so grateful for the water, snacks, and sandwiches from North Scottsdale United Methodist Church and Ascension Lutheran Church delivered by Pastor Adele and Andrew.

In July, these two congregations officially will join as one community, Peace in the Desert, an ELCA and UMC Union Congregation.

Arizona’s summer heat has arrived, and with it comes increased risk for many of our neighbors. Arizona Faith Network’s 2026 Extreme Heat Relief Program is now open and actively serving Arizona communities — but we can’t do this without you!

By collaborating with congregations, nonprofits, and community organizations, AFN heat relief sites provide safe indoor respite, cold water, snacks, cooling resources, and compassionate care to individuals and families seeking relief from dangerous temperatures.

Last summer, AFN-supported heat relief centers welcomed more than 55,000 visits. Behind every visit is a person who found safety, dignity, and hope during Arizona’s most extreme weather.

As we prepare for another long and challenging heat season, we invite you to join us in protecting our most vulnerable neighbors. Together, we can help ensure that no one faces Arizona’s extreme heat alone.

See our website for ways you can help and get involved with heat relief efforts this summer - arizonafaithnetwork.org.

Documentary Screening: "Sanctuary"
Friday, June 12, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral
100 W Roosevelt St, Phoenix, AZ 85003

The RE-Humanization Project(TM) presents a Pride Month showing of Sanctuary, a feature documentary. This free event includes dinner at 6 pm, then the film at 6:45 with Q/A to follow. All are welcome.

Sanctuary is a feature-length documentary that exposes the plight of LGBTQIA+ individuals within modern faith systems— told through the eyes of a visionary architect whose passion project becomes a lifeline. As doctrine collides with identity, a sacred space rises from rejection, offering refuge and hope. Alongside his journey, scholars and spiritual leaders from a variety of religious traditions share how they are transforming their institutions to welcome the marginalized and reimagine what it means to belong. Protect the Vote AZ is a proactive, community-led measure to protect Arizona’s mail-in voting and its common-sense voter-ID laws in the state constitution. When qualified and passed, the Act would protect our fundamental right to vote within the Arizona Constitution. Including:

✅ Voting by mail
✅ Voting early, in person
✅ Voting on Election Day at county voting centers
✅ Codifying common-sense voter ID requirements
✅ Guaranteeing a voter's right to sign up to receive a ballot by mail for every election

To protect the Fundamental Right to Vote in Arizona’s constitution, the campaign must gather 383,923 valid signatures by July 2, 2026 to qualify for the ballot. Faith communities are invited to help protect democracy and share your voice. Visit ProtectTheVoteAZ.com to read the ballot measure, volunteer, and subscribe to updates.

Call for Community Hydration Station Partners in Pima County

As temperatures rise, the Pima County Heat Relief Network is committed to supporting, recognizing, and expanding the vital heat‑relief work already being carried out across our community. To strengthen these efforts, we are seeking organizations, churches, businesses, and community groups willing to serve as hydration stations during the upcoming heat season.

Participating partners will receive all necessary materials, including:

Bottled water
Educational and outreach resources
Heat relief supplies
Ongoing programmatic support

Hydration stations may operate on any days and at any times that work best for your organization—we will work with you to support a schedule that aligns with your capacity and community reach. By hosting a hydration station, your organization helps enhance existing heat‑relief networks and ensures that vulnerable community members have access to reliable hydration resources.

If your organization is interested in joining this effort or would like additional information, please contact [email protected] to discuss next steps. Together, we can strengthen and expand the impact of heat‑relief initiatives throughout our community.
