Coalition of Blacks Against Breast Cancer (CBBC)

Coalition of Blacks Against Breast Cancer (CBBC) The Phoenix Metropolitan area population is approximately 3 percent African American/ African descendant, or 300,000 out of 4 million people.

Our mission is to provide high quality, reliable information and support to black breast cancer patients within the Phoenix metropolitan area, and to educate the black community about breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, and screening. Nationally, one in eight women, as well as a minority of men, will be affected by breast cancer. Within the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, the percentage of women diagn

osed with early stages of disease is lower than Caucasian women. Importantly, the percentage of female breast cancer cases diagnosed as Stage IV (metastatic) in 2009 is twice as high as other ethnic groups (8 versus 4%). Nationally, the survival for breast cancer in African American women lags behind other ethnic group. Within the Phoenix Metropolitan area, there is no group specifically targeting black women and men with breast cancer. As well, there is no website that provides information regarding breast cancer specifically targeting the black population regarding information related to the cancer diagnosis and treatment, or prevention and screening. There is also no social media supporting our community of black breast cancer survivors.

As we celebrate the emancipation of our ancestors, Juneteenth also reminds us of the fight for equality and equal access to healthcare, information, and resources that continues today.

Today is National Cancer Survivor Day. Every survivor has a story that can inspire others. Today, the Coalition of Blacks Against Cancer (CBAC) invites cancer survivors to celebrate their strength, resilience, and hope by sharing a piece of advice that helped them along their journey.

Whether your message is about faith, family, self-advocacy, perseverance, or finding joy in each day, your words could be exactly what someone else needs to hear right now.

Together, we honor the courage of survivors, remember those we've lost, and inspire hope for those still fighting.

💜 Celebrating Strength.
💜 Honoring Survivors.
💜 Inspiring Hope.

A beautiful day filled with amazing women! The Annual Pink Carpet Breast Cancer Survivors Brunch was held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at One Lexington in Midtown Phoenix, welcoming more than 35 gorgeous ladies for an afternoon rooted in community, sisterhood, and celebration. Special recognition goes to our dedicated planning committee — Gina, Patricia, and Karisma — whose efforts made the event a success.

Guests were treated to a wine tasting experience, generously supported by CooperHawk Winery and Goosies Wine Shop. Adding an unforgettable touch to the afternoon, Kara White of Pretty on Pointe Productions led a dance segment.

The smiles, the sisterhood, and the joy were flowing abundantly throughout this event... one of our favorite events of the year!

Join us this Sunday for the CBAC May Program. We will start with the support group meetings for the CBBC and CBPC. Following that, we will come together for our education session, Pelvic Floor Health for Men, Women, and Every Body.

Cancer treatment can impact much more than the areas directly targeted during care. Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy may contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction, affecting bladder and bowel control, intimacy, mobility, and overall comfort. While these concerns are common among survivors, they are often not discussed openly leaving many unaware that support and treatment options exist.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Tara Sullivan and Dr. Kylee Austin, pelvic floor physical therapists and co-owners of Mind to Body Healing (M2B), a practice focused on compassionate, whole-person pelvic health care. Their work supports individuals experiencing pelvic pain, bladder and bowel concerns, sexual dysfunction, prostatitis, and post-prostatectomy recovery.

Dr. Sullivan is a nationally recognized leader in pelvic rehabilitation and sexual medicine with extensive clinical and teaching experience. Dr. Austin brings a unique blend of pelvic health expertise, wellness coaching, and personal insight that helps patients feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout their healing journey.

This conversation is for everyone. Pelvic floor therapy is not limited to cancer survivors, it can benefit people of all ages and backgrounds seeking improved health, confidence, and quality of life. We encourage survivors, caregivers, loved ones, and community members to join us for this informative and meaningful discussion.

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday for our monthly support group meeting and educational session. There will be separate support groups for CBBC and CBPC survivors, and then we will come together for the educational session. This month's topic is:

Education Session: Pelvic Floor Health for Men, Women, and Every Body
Join us for an informative conversation on pelvic floor health. Cancer treatment, whether it be surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy, can all impact pelvic floor function, leading to issues like bladder and bowel changes, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction. These are common experiences among survivors, yet they often go unaddressed.

We are honored to welcome Dr. Tara Sullivan and Dr. Kylee Austin, pelvic floor physical therapists and co‑owners of Mind to Body Healing (M2B), a practice dedicated to whole‑person pelvic health. Their work includes care for prostatitis, post-prostatectomy recovery, sexual dysfunction, and bladder, bowel, and pelvic pain concerns.

Dr. Sullivan is a nationally recognized expert with advanced certifications in pelvic rehabilitation, women’s health, and sexual medicine, bringing over a decade of specialized clinical and teaching experience. Dr. Austin blends her background in fitness and postpartum wellness with clinical pelvic health training, shaped by her own lived experience as a mother.

Pelvic Floor therapy can be beneficial for everyone — not just those navigating a cancer journey.
