Could your dog help you live longer? 🐶❤️

New research suggests dog owners may have a lower risk of death and better heart health — thanks to more daily movement, stronger social connections, and the emotional support pets provide. Studies show dogs can help reduce loneliness, encourage exercise, and even bring a greater sense of purpose to daily life.

While research is ongoing, one thing is clear: the human-animal bond is powerful.

At The Arizona Pet Project, we see every day how keeping pets and people together strengthens families, improves wellbeing, and builds healthier communities. Thank you for supporting the important work we do. 🐾💙

This we are reflecting on how small acts of kindness create BIG impact 🐾💙

Every year, Jameson hosts a cocoa booth fundraiser and donates the proceeds to help his community. Last year, he chose The Arizona Pet Project! ☕🐶

With support from our friends at Arizona Animal Welfare League, Callie and Jameson spent time volunteering with adoptable pets while also donating pet toys, collars, and other much-needed supplies for vulnerable pet families in our community. Their generosity and compassion are helping keep pets happy, healthy, and with the people who love them most.

Thank you, Jameson and Callie, for showing what it means to give back and make a difference — one furry friend at a time. 🐕🐾

Many of the families we serve are living on fixed incomes — including many older adults here in Arizona who rely on their pets for comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. 💙🐾

When our team met Rocky and his dad, he shared something heartbreaking: as he aged, he worried more each day about whether he’d be able to continue caring for Rocky, his very best friend.

We know the human-animal bond is powerful and healing — especially for seniors and pets like Rocky. No one should have to say goodbye to a beloved companion simply because they can’t afford veterinary care or temporary support during a difficult time.

That’s why The Arizona Pet Project steps in before families are forced to surrender their pets to already crowded shelters. Whether it’s emergency surgery, temporary boarding while a pet parent recovers from surgery, or access to basic veterinary care, we work to keep pets where they belong: at home with the people who love them most. 🏡

Through our programs, we provide critical support including:
• Spay/neuter services
• Vaccines and microchips
• Preventative care
• Emergency medical treatment
• Temporary pet boarding
• Pet deposit assistance

We believe every family deserves access to pet care — regardless of age, income, or circumstance.

When you support The Arizona Pet Project, you’re helping Arizona families and their beloved pets stay together when they need it most. Thank you for making stories like Rocky’s possible.

Want to strengthen your bond with your dog? Science says: play more. 🐾💙

A new study found that just a few extra minutes of play each day can significantly improve the emotional connection between dogs and their humans — even more than training alone.

Games like tug-of-war, hide-and-seek, chasing, and peekaboo helped owners feel closer to their pets and improved dogs’ overall mood and engagement.

The takeaway? Connection doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your dog is simply have fun together. 🐶

Meet Delilah.

Jennie says Delilah isn’t just her dog — she’s her little girl, her best friend, and her whole heart. 💙🐾

When Delilah developed painful allergies, Jennie did everything she could to make room in her budget for the medication her pup desperately needed. But after falling on hard times, Jennie faced an impossible choice: buy groceries or buy Delilah’s medicine.

Watching Delilah suffer with rashes on her paws and belly broke her heart.

That’s when Jennie reached out to The Arizona Pet Project for help.

Because of compassionate supporters like YOU, we were able to provide Delilah with the allergy medication she needed to start feeling better again. 🐶✨

For Jennie, the relief was overwhelming — not only knowing Delilah was healing, but also having the time and support needed to catch up on bills and regain stability.

Every donation to The Arizona Pet Project helps keep pets with the families who love them during life’s toughest moments.

Thank you for being part of that mission.

HUGE news! The state of Colorado just took a major step forward for pets and people 💙🐾

Governor Jared Polis has signed a new law recognizing the human-animal bond as a key part of overall health and wellbeing. The legislation allows Colorado’s public health department to consider pets as a “social determinant of health” — acknowledging what so many of us already know: pets help reduce loneliness, improve mental health, keep us active, and strengthen communities.

This is the kind of people + pets support we love to see. 🐶🐱

This Throwback Thursday we are remembering the amazing time we had at Arizona Animal Welfare League's Walk to Save Lives! 🐾💙

Thanks to our incredible partnership with Animal Welfare League, The Arizona Pet Project was able to connect with hundreds of animal lovers, share our mission, and receive generous donations including collars, leashes, harnesses, pet treats, and dog food from Bundle of Joy.

With more than 600 participants attending the event, we were inspired by the community’s passion for keeping pets and families together. We also met so many individuals interested in volunteering and supporting our work in the future!

A huge thank you to AAWL and everyone who stopped by to support pets and the people who love them. Together, we are making a difference for Arizona families and their furry companions. 🐶🐱

Today, we celebrate the dogs who got a second chance — and the people who made it possible. 💙🐾

On National Rescue Dog Day, we honor every rescue pup who found their forever family, every foster who opened their home, every volunteer who gave their time, and every supporter helping keep pets with the people who love them.

Millions of dogs enter shelters each year, but together, we can change that story through compassion, community support, and keeping families together whenever possible. National Rescue Dog Day was created to raise awareness about adoption and the incredible impact rescue dogs have on our lives.

If you’ve ever rescued a dog, you know the truth:
They don’t just save dogs — dogs save people, too. 🐶

Share a photo of your rescue pup in the comments and tell us their story! ⬇️

At The Arizona Pet Project, we believe no one should have to lose a pet because of hardship. Your compassion helps keep people and pets together when they need each other most.

Because of your kindness, Laurie and Snickerdoodle received the support they needed. 💙🐾

During outreach at André House in Phoenix, The Arizona Pet Project team met Laurie and her beloved companion, Snickerdoodle. From the moment we connected, it was clear just how deep their bond was. Snickerdoodle brought Laurie comfort, companionship, and hope each and every day.

Thanks to supporters like YOU, we were able to provide dog food, supplies, and a brand-new toy that Snickerdoodle proudly carried away in his tiny paws.

Laurie shared how much this support meant during such a difficult time — giving her peace of mind knowing she won’t have to choose between caring for herself or feeding her best friend.

Thank you for making stories like Laurie and Snickerdoodle’s possible.

We’re honored to share that The Arizona Pet Project has received a $32,000 CommonSpirit Health Community Health Improvement Grant to support people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity with pets in the Chandler-Mesa area. 💙🐾

This funding will allow us to serve 100 individuals and families by providing direct pet-related services that help keep people and their pets together during times of crisis. Funds will support:
• Pet supplies
• Vaccinations
• Veterinary care
• Boarding and foster support
• Pet deposits, licensing, and spay/neuter services

Through this program, AZPP Social Workers will:
🏠 Help clients meet pet-related shelter requirements and transition into permanent housing
🤝 Conduct full needs assessments and connect clients to wraparound support services through a structured stabilization process
🐶 Coordinate temporary boarding and foster care through Lost Our Home so clients can access shelter, medical care, or substance use treatment without surrendering their beloved pets

We are deeply grateful to CommonSpirit Health for investing in compassionate, people-and-pets-centered solutions that strengthen families and keep pets out of shelters. Together, we’re creating pathways to stability — without forcing anyone to choose between safety and their pet.
