In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Kassandra Figueroa attended the Domestic Violence Conference in Santa Cruz County, sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Coordinated Community Response Team in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and Mariposa Community Health Center.

The day centered on understanding the response to domestic violence, from the initial call to law enforcement dispatch and the law enforcement response to court proceedings and the advocacy resources available to survivors. These conversations help strengthen awareness, build connections across systems, and highlight the resources available to individuals and families in our communities.

We are grateful for the opportunity to build awareness around the resources that support safety and access to care.

Our 2026 Embracing Hope keynote speaker, Catherine Alonzo, is bringing The Changemaker’s Toolkit to Arizona Peer and Family Career Academy’s Anchored in Connection conference.

Since its 2026 release, Catherine’s work has already reached changemakers across Arizona and beyond, from Phoenix and Tucson to leadership spaces and, now, across the pond to London.

And on October 15, all of our Embracing Hope attendees will take a copy home.
Catherine’s keynote will explore what it takes to keep creating change when the work feels heavy, resources are limited and the path forward isn't always clear.
Four tools. One toolkit. And a room full of people who are already changing lives every day.

September is wrapping up, and we’re deep in conference season, looking ahead to Global Peer Support Day, diligently working on finalizing the recognition of the lived experience professionals who continue to advance the profession.

So far in 2026, we’ve reached over 1,000 course completions through Academy trainings. Behind every completion is someone dedicated to growing their practice and bringing new knowledge back to their community.

We have said this before and say it again, there is still so much ahead: more learning, more connection, more recognition of the lived experience profession, and more opportunities to strengthen the workforce together.

Here’s to finishing the year with purpose and intention.

Two trainings. Two languages. One mission.

Yesterday in Maricopa County, Kenia Jazmine Guzman and Brissa Rubio brought continued education and professional development opportunities to Si Se Puede Neighborhood Association and Reach Family Services.

From self-care to ethics and boundaries, we’re bringing practical conversations and learning opportunities to the people doing the work.

Different spaces. Different languages. Different conversations.

But the same goal: building stronger communities together. When we learn together, we grow together.

Once a month, we get to spend time with the team at MIKID in Nogales, bringing professional development into the space where the work is already happening.

Our training this month was Exploring Together: Motivational Interviewing for SUD, but the learning doesn’t always stay within the topic we planned.

Sometimes the best learning is the skill that shows up unexpectedly.
A new way to ask a question.
A different way to listen.
A conversation that makes us stop and think, “I hadn’t looked at it that way before.”

And there’s something special about being able to have these conversations bilingually, too. Kassandra brings Spanish-language facilitation into the room, making it possible for more team members to participate bring their own experiences into the conversation. That’s the richness of learning together.

This weekend, the Arizona Peer and Family Career Academy board came together for our annual retreat at Topgolf Glendale.

We looked honestly at what we have accomplished, what we are building now, where opportunities may have been missed, and what Arizona’s peer and family workforce needs from us next.

The Academy has grown because people across Arizona have continued to show up, share their experiences, hold doors open, build partnerships, attend trainings, and bring their communities with them. Our Community Trainer model, statewide partnerships, professional development opportunities, and growing presence across Arizona are all part of that story.

We were grateful for everyone who was able to be in the room this weekend. And we missed those who could not join us. The next chapter of PFCA will not be built by one person or one organization.

If you are new to PFCA, welcome. Follow along and see what we are building across Arizona.
