Earlier this month, Keys to Change went to STN for a special opportunity to share more about our work in the community! Our Director of Partnerships, Jowan Thornton, joined CEO Amy Rose Schwabenlender on the couch for a conversation at STN. 🎥

We’re grateful for opportunities like these to spotlight the work happening at Keys to Change, highlight the partnerships that make our work possible, and keep the conversation going about addressing homelessness in our community.

Our staff work every day to help individuals navigate complex systems and connect with the resources they need to move forward.

In sharing more about our services, our team supports individuals in our community in many ways — from housing navigation and Social Security benefits through SOAR, to the Justice Opioid Program, Behavioral Health Services, H2O housing support, and Reentry Services.

Whether someone is navigating housing instability, connecting to benefits, transitioning from incarceration, or seeking behavioral health and housing support, our goal is the same: meet people where they are, connect them to meaningful resources, and help create pathways toward greater stability and independence.

Every connection can be a step forward. Every door we help open can be the beginning of a new chapter.

In this month’s blog, Amy Schwabenlender reflects on the many moving pieces of serving people experiencing homelessness—and the people, moments, and acts of kindness that keep us steady when the plates are spinning.

One message from a former client especially stayed with her:

“May your kindness return to you in ways you never expect.”

In the midst of busy seasons and difficult work, Amy reminds us of the power of connection, gratitude, and simply showing up for one another. Explore “Spinning Plates” for her latest reflections from the front lines of our work.

The journey home starts here.

Managed by Keys to Change, the Brian Garcia Welcome Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, helping connect our unhoused neighbors with a wide range of Key Campus services and off-site community resources.

The Welcome Center staff provide diversion services, vulnerability screenings, shelter referrals, and connections to resources that can help individuals take their next step toward stability.

The journey home can start with a welcoming door, a helping hand, and someone ready to listen.

Harold came to Arizona looking for peace. With support from Keys to Change, he found a path home—and housing.

After arriving in Phoenix without a place to stay, Harold worked with our team to find a path forward. When flying home didn’t feel right, our team drove him safely back to California, where he was connected with housing and ongoing support.

Sometimes, it starts with simply being heard. We’re proud to have been part of Harold’s journey home.

Last Thursday, Corey R. Harris, our newest board member, joined us at STN, while Jowan Thornton, our Director of Partnerships, made his first appearance on the couch with CEO Amy Rose Schwabenlender . 🎥

Of course, we couldn’t forget Ralphie, the Brazilian armadillo, who joined Joaquin from the Phoenix Zoo for a special STN visit! 🦔

We’re grateful for opportunities like these to share the work happening at Keys to Change, spotlight our partnerships, and connect with our community.

The need for homelessness services continues to grow across our community.
As Keys to Change CEO Amy Schwabenlender shared, “We don’t have enough prevention. We don’t have enough shelter. We don’t have enough housing.”

We’re grateful for the opportunity to address immediate needs while working alongside our partners to tackle the structural issues that contribute to homelessness and create lasting change.

What a day at Project Connect! Despite the pouring rain, the event was a tremendous success. 🎉

We welcomed 158 guests, served more than 500 meals, provided 38 haircuts, and shared countless moments of human connection. 🌧️💙

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, partnered with us, and helped make the event possible!
