Homelessness is not someone’s identity. It is a circumstance—and for many people, it is not permanent.

But when you are experiencing homelessness, even the most basic steps toward stability can feel impossible without the right documents.

You may need an ID to apply for a job.
An ID to secure housing.
A birth certificate to obtain an ID.
Documents to access healthcare, benefits, education, and other essential services.

Without an ID, our clients are stuck.

That’s where Homeless ID Project comes in.

We provide free Arizona IDs and birth certificates from all 50 states and U.S. territories to people experiencing homelessness and others who lack the identification they need to move forward.

Because help has to start somewhere.

What a morning. 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us Friday for our HELP STARTS HERE fundraising breakfast and helped make the morning so meaningful.

One of the things we value most about this work is that we don’t do it alone. Real change happens when organizations come together, share resources, open doors, and show up for one another—and our community partners do exactly that.

We were so grateful to have , the City, , and Worker in the room with us once again. These partnerships make it possible for us to reach people where they are and help remove one of the first barriers standing between our clients and the stability they’re working toward.

And then there was Connelly-Wright, CEO of Chrysalis, who spoke with such power, honesty, and grace that we almost felt a little sorry for our Board Vice President, Loyden, having to follow her. 😉 Thankfully, Manny rose to the occasion and brought the room home with a powerful reminder of what happens when a community chooses to help.

To our partners, sponsors, volunteers, board members, supporters, and everyone who took the time to be there: thank you.

Your presence reminds us that help really does start here—with people willing to show up, work together, and believe that everyone deserves a path forward.

Angela came to Homeless ID Project for her birth certificate after applying for housing. She knows it may take a few months before a spot becomes available, but she wants to be ready when her housing voucher comes through.

For Angela, being ready means looking ahead—and holding onto the things that make her feel like herself.

Every morning, she puts on lipstick.

“It’s all I have left to make me feel like me,” she says.

That small ritual represents something much bigger: Angela’s determination to keep moving forward, even when the road ahead is uncertain.

As she gestures around the shelter where she is staying, Angela is adamant:

“This is not my forever home.”

Her birth certificate is one more piece she needs to open the door to what comes next—a safe place to call home.

We work alongside organizations throughout Arizona that are helping people find housing, employment, healthcare, and stability. When identification is one of the barriers, we’re here to help remove it — allowing our partners to keep doing what they do best.
