Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

🌈 Pride means something different to each of us—and that’s what makes it so powerful.

At the Philly Black Pride Block Party, .modernlife took a moment to hear directly from our community by asking one question: “What does Pride mean to you?” The responses reflected the strength, joy, resilience, and diversity of Black LGBTQ+ experiences.

Philly Black Pride mission is to help create opportunities for Black LGBTQ+ people to be seen, celebrated, and connected. This video captures just a few of the voices that make our community so vibrant.

As we celebrate Pride Month, take a moment to listen—and then tell us in the comments:

✨ What does Pride mean to you?

A heartfelt thank you to Councilmember and Majority Leader and her entire team for leading with intention and making space to honor Black and Brown changemakers during Philly Black Pride Week.

Kendra shows up for our communities in ways that are consistent, grounded, and impactful. She advocates, she listens, and she moves policy with people at the center—and that kind of leadership doesn’t always get the credit it deserves, but it absolutely should.

The People’s House was moving all day busy, energized, and filled with purpose. And I want to acknowledge the councilmembers and leaders who made sure we were not only welcomed, but seen, respected, and celebrated in that space: , Mark Driscoll, and .

Each of you helped create an environment where our presence was valued and our impact was recognized and that matters more than you know.

Thank you for standing with us, for honoring our community, and for continuing to do the work. This is what leadership looks like.

At the Philly Black Pride Thrive Empowerment Summit, Rosko spent time with some of our incredible panelists and asked one powerful question:
“What makes you feel empowered?” 🖤🏳️‍🌈

From community, to self-love, to living authentically, their answers were a reminder of how powerful Black q***r voices and experiences truly are. Thank you to everyone who shared their wisdom, stories, and energy with us during Black Pride weekend.

Now we want to hear from YOU ⬇️
What makes you feel empowered? Drop your answer in the comments. ✨

Welcome to , a living digital archive honoring the stories, wisdom, and legacies of Philadelphia’s Black and Brown LGBTQ+ elders.

Too often, there’s a disconnect between generations. Through storytelling, we hope to bridge that gap by creating space for our elders to be seen, heard, and remembered in their own words.

These are the voices that shaped our community through love, resistance, joy and survival. Their lived experiences carry lessons, history, and perspectives that deserve to be shared.

We owe it to ourselves, and to future generations, to listen.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and showed love at our City Hall flag raising. To stand in that space, together, in full visibility and pride it means everything.

Deep gratitude to for issuing the official proclamation declaring Philly Black Pride Week, and to Councilmember Rue Landau, Tito Valdés from the Office of LGBT Affairs, and the City Representatives Office for continuing to stand with and uplift our community.

And to every changemaker, leader, and community member in attendance this moment was because of you. Your presence, your work, your love continues to move us forward.

27 years strong, and we’re still rising.
This is our city. This is our pride.
