Lanzando Líderes (Launching Leaders) is a community-based afterschool leadership development program for Latino high school students.

Lanzando Líderes (Launching Leaders) is an afterschool youth leadership development program for Latino high school students. Our program equips students with the knowledge and skills to become leaders in their own lives and in their communities. We are a culturally-grounded program founded on the principles of social equity and social determinants of health. We work collaboratively and consistentl

y with the South Philadelphia Latino community to sustain an afterschool program that meets the needs of all students and their families. As a bilingual community-based program, Lanzando Líderes bridges access to the resources necessary to support our families’ health, safety, and wellbeing. By fostering a sense of cultural pride and identity, students will feel supported in their development as young leaders. We believe that each student has a unique camino (path) to explore and pursue. Lanzando Líderes is a partner of Puentes de Salud (Bridges to Health), a South Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization that serves the Latino immigrant community through an integrated approach to health and wellness. Our program works to support and realize the mission of Puentes de Salud to address the social determinants of health that affect our community. Together, we seek to improve the long-term health and prosperity of the South Philadelphia Latino immigrant community by actively addressing the social and systemic inequities holding back a generation of leaders.

Lanzando Líderes es un programa para después de la escuela enfocado en el desarrollo de liderazgo de los jóvenes en grados 9-12. Nuestro programa apoya a los jóvenes en el desarrollo de sus habilidades como líderes en sus vidas y en sus comunidades. Somos un programa basado en principios de cultura, justicia social y determinantes sociales de la salud. Trabajamos en colaboración con la comunidad del Sur de Philadelphia para mantener un programa que apoya a los estudiantes y sus familias. Como programa bilingüe y comunitario, Lanzando Líderes facilita el acceso a recursos necesarios para apoyar a la salud, la seguridad, y el bienestar de nuestras familias. Cultivando un orgullo de sus raíces e identidad cultural permitirá que los estudiantes se sientan apoyados en su desarrollo como líderes. Trabajamos en colaboración con Puentes de Salud, una organización sin fines de lucro que promueve la salud y el bienestar de la comunidad Latina inmigrante del sur de Filadelfia por medio de servicios médicos de alta calidad, programas de educación innovadora y desarrollo comunitario. Nuestro programa trabaja para llevar a cabo la misión de Puentes de Salud de afrontar los determinantes sociales de la salud que afectan a nuestra comunidad. Juntos buscamos mejorar la salud y la prosperidad de la comunidad de inmigrantes Latinos en el Sur de Filadelfia por combatir las desigualdades sociales y sistémicas que limitan el desarrollo de la próxima generación de líderes.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITY ALERT: 9-12th Graders interested in learning about the college process and preparing for postsecondary success. This program is totally free and takes place over 7 sessions this summer. Register by next Tuesday, June 12th.

College Access is a new program by our University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education partners. It is geared toward helping 9th-12th grade students demystify the college admissions process. One of the highlights of the year was our nature retreat to French Creek State Park, where we went on a 4-mile hike and learned basic survival skills. Special thanks to our guides, Brad and Jim, for sharing the day with us and making this an unforgettable experience!
