Consent is mandatory every time. Even if you've said yes in the past!

It’s your body, your choice.

Consent is fundamental to s*xual health.

No one should pressure or coerce you into any s*xual act

Happy World Sexual Health Day from Women Against Abuse!

Nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 23 men in the U.S. have experienced contact s*xual violence in their lifetime (source: National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) by the CDC).

Stats like these are why CONSENT is a key part of the curriculum in Women Against Abuse’s S.A.F.E.R. program.

S.A.F.E.R. empowers teens and young adults in Philadelphia to recognize the warning signs of relationship abuse, like when a partner pressures you to have s*x when you’ve said no, refuses to use protection during s*x or shares private pictures without your consent.

Consent should be freely given, informed, specific and reversible. That last part means you have the right to withdraw consent at any time. Period.

On Team Prevention, we believe in safety and autonomy without exception. That’s why we want to normalize talking about boundaries and consent, today and every day!

P.S. If you’re noticing these warning signs in your relationship, the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline is here for you 24/7. Call 1-866-723-3014.

Gloria Steinem’s groundbreaking work helped pave the way for organizations like ours.

From exposing the s*xist working conditions of women as a journalist early on in her career to championing reproductive freedom and safety from relationship abuse over the past five decades, Gloria never backed down from demanding equal rights and justice for ALL women in the world.

Rest in power, Gloria. Your work will continue ✊

[Image description: A picture of a setting sun against a purple sky, with the words of departed women’s rights icon Gloria Steinem: “If feminism means anything, it means taking responsibility for ourselves: for our own lives and actions.

It is not “women as victims” but women refusing to be victims.

What we need, as adults or children, is just one person who has confidence in us, so we can have confidence in ourselves.”]

Save the Office on Violence Against Women. Survivors are counting on you.

In advocacy,

It’s time to check in with yourself about how you want to feel and how you actually feel in your relationships.

Healthy isn’t perfect.
It’s respect, care and trust.
It’s people who bring out the best in each other.

You decide what you bring into this new school year, and that’s not selfish. It’s agency – not trying to control anyone, but making the best choices for yourself.

You don’t have to feel like a relationship is happening to you instead of for you. If you need support reflecting on a relationship, please call the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-866-723-3014.
