Persimmons season is on its way to peak season. Let's start with the basics: we carry two varieties of persimmons, Fuyu and Hachiya.

Fuyu persimmons are short, flat, and square-shaped, with light orange skin, while Hachiya persimmons are cone-shaped with bright orange skin.

The biggest difference? Fuyu persimmons are ready to eat right away and can be enjoyed crisp or soft. Hachiya persimmons should be left to ripen at room temperature until they're very soft and almost custard-like before eating.

Fuyu persimmons are great sliced up for snacking, added to fall salads, or paired with cheese. Once fully softened, Hachiya persimmons can be enjoyed right out of the skin with a spoon or incorporated into baked goods.
Now that we're all pros at persimmons, let's go grab a few today!

Turn your fall produce into a sweet, healthy treat for the whole family! Created and demonstrated by Sophie, a graduate student in Nutrition and Dietetics at Thomas Jefferson University, this recipe combines pomegranate seeds, dark melting chocolate, and pistachios to make a delicious bark. Pomegranate & Pistachio Bark takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and can be stored in an airtight container for up to five days. It's incredibly easy to make and absolutely delicious! The recipe is included at the end of the video.

Give it a try and let us know what you think! Sophie will be doing live demos in store of her reciepes, check the event calendar for more!

Happy National Co-op Month!
Co-op Month has been celebrated nationally since 1964, when it was proclaimed by Orville Freeman, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and former Minnesota governor. Here at Weavers Way, we are joining more than 65,000 cooperatives and credit unions across the nation in celebrating Co-op Month.

Visit us throughout October and keep an eye out for discounts on a variety of co-op brands, from Cabot Creamery products to Frontier Co-op spices. Across the United States, co-ops are actively demonstrating that it is possible to operate thriving businesses while protecting the environment and strengthening local economies. Be a part of the movement!

Our sale runs from Wednesday, September 30, through Tuesday, November 3.

Say hello to the Honeynut squash that carries a little bit of Weavers Way history.
For the past seven years, our farmers at Awbury Farm have been saving seeds from the honeynut squash they grow each season, resulting in a unique Weavers Way strain that has adapted to the fields of Northwest Philly. Super Philly-grown, if you ask us.

Our honeynut squash is still very much a honeynut squash; don't worry about that, with all the sweet, rich flavor that made it famous. Over time, though, our crop has developed its own character, resulting in a honeynut squash that stores beautifully, tastes incredible, and is something our farm team is especially proud of.
Each squash carries a little piece of Weavers Way history!

Huge thanks to our farm team for creating something so cool, unique, and delicious. We hope you love it as much as we do. Look for it in stores for $3.99/lb.

(Honeynut squash was originally developed by plant breeder Michael Mazourek and collaborators at Cornell University, in partnership with chef Dan Barber.)

Visit Cliveden on Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, and journey back to October 1777 to experience Germantown during the Battle of Germantown at the Revolutionary Germantown Festival, located at the epicenter of the historic battle.

The day will consist of hands-on activities, intimate portrayals of those who lived through the conflict, and much more! Tour the Chew House and meet Elizabeth Oswald Chew, visit the British and Continental armies for a full soldier experience, and enjoy a rare moment of peace between the armies as they portray the famous dog exchange between George Washington and William Howe. Of course, be sure to sample freshly baked bread from Half Crown Bakehouse!

The festival is free and open to the public.
