Terra dei Fuochi: years of ignored data.

Prof. Antonio Giordano returns to the Terra dei Fuochi issue with an article published in Il Mattino, drawing attention to an uncomfortable truth: the data was there. For years.

Yet institutional delays, fragmented communications and a tendency to downplay the problem postponed concrete action, while the contamination of water, soil and food supply chains continued unchecked.

Health cannot be separated from the environment.
This is why at Sbarro Health Research Institute we deeply believe in the One Health approach: an integrated model that brings together human, animal and environmental health, an indispensable tool for preventing complex crises and protecting the most vulnerable communities.

These days, there's a lot of talk about artificial intelligence and the supposed "end of medicine".

Prof. Antonio Giordano explains that reality is different: it's not the doctor disappearing, but the model of doctor crushed between bureaucracy and screens.
A topic that Prof. Giordano explored in the recent JAMA publication with Dr. Canio Martinelli.

AI could make everything worse. Or it could restore time, relationships, and vocation.
We'll make the difference.

Artificial Intelligence is not the end of the doctor. It is the end of a certain way of being a doctor.

The distance to desired results is bridged by discipline, not just motivation.

Results do not reward those who wait passively, but emerge as the natural consequence of dedication, precision, and daily continuity.

The liver is not just an organ, but the true laboratory of the human body.

SHRO research backs it: most liver diseases are preventable via diet and lifestyle.

Prof. Antonio Giordano deepens the theme of liver health, emphasizing that it starts with dietary choices.

Cancers are no longer just a disease of advanced age. They increasingly affect young adults too. In particular, six types of cancer are rising under age 50: breast, colorectal, endometrial, kidney, thyroid, and certain leukemias. The most alarming data concerns colorectal cancer, which is growing more rapidly precisely among the youngest.

The causes? Lifestyles, diet, obesity, chronic inflammation. But also something broader: the "exposome," that is, the totality of environmental and behavioral exposures that accompany each of us from the start of life.

Research is examining the role of the gut microbiota, the impact of widespread environmental chemicals, hormonal and social changes.

World Health Day: One Health, a holistic approach to Human Health

On World Health Day, SHRO reminds us that human, animal, and environmental health form an interconnected system. One Health promotes a holistic approach to human health that accounts for the impact of environmental factors.

Many diseases, like antibiotic resistance, originate in farms, food chains, and pollution—not just clinical settings. Doctors address the final outcome; One Health acts upstream: identifying risks, reducing them, and preventing them.

Study of the microbiota, responsible antibiotic use, and collaboration among physicians, veterinarians, and environmental experts: these are the pillars for more effective decisions.

Not just treating, but preventing with a multidisciplinary perspective.

Health is one!
