Important update for internationally educated healthcare professionals: HRSA has revised the approved English Language Proficiency (ELP) examinations and passing score requirements used for U.S. healthcare worker certification and immigration processes.

In alignment with HRSA’s updated requirements, we will adapt our policies and processes for VisaScreen certificate issuance effective May 12, 2026.

This means:
• Exams taken prior to May 12, 2026, will still be certified under the previous criteria.
• Exams taken on or after May 12, 2026, will be certified according to the new criteria.

Please note: TOEIC will no longer be accepted for VisaScreen certification after May 12, 2026, as it is no longer included on HRSA’s approved exam list.

As long-time advocates for improved ELP standards, we are encouraged to see progress toward stronger score alignment and continued emphasis on patient safety and equitable standards for foreign-trained healthcare professionals seeking practice in the U.S.
