We will be holding our vigil to mark the 1 Year Anniversary of Sri Lankan garment worker Paramsivam Pushpalatha's tragic and preventable death on Thursday October 15th at 6pm. We will meet at 1625 Chestnut St. I've attached the flyer for the vigil and a flyer for our upcoming 10.12 Phonebank. If you scroll down there is also a background paragraph on Pushpalatha's death in case you need it for outreach. Come out to join us on Thursday. I am happy to report that we are in active negotiations with Victoria's Secret right now. However that means that plans may change rapidly as bargaining develops so please be prepared for alterations in the plan or message as we get closer to the action.

Background: Justice4PushpalathaPushpalatha was a 44-year-old mother and a garment worker who made clothing and lingerie for Victoria’s Secret at a Sri Lankan factory owned by a supplier called Brandix. She died a preventable death nearly a year ago after several coworkers reported that a Brandix supervisor denied her leave when she fell ill on the job. She went into work as on any regular day, but by the end of the day, she was dead. She had worked at Brandix, in Victoria’s Secret’s supply chain, for over a decade.
In the months since her tragic death, other workers from Brandix, Pushpalatha’s family members, and union organizers with the Commercial and Industrial Workers’ Union (CIWU-Sri Lanka) launched the Justice for Pushpa campaign with support from Asia Floor Wage Alliance and Global Labor Justice. They have reported threats and intimidation – including threats of r**e and murder – for demanding accountability and speaking up about Pushpalatha.
