"Myers is a place where you find yourself, be yourself, create yourself, and at the same time give to others."

At the Francis J. Myers Rec. Center ribbon-cutting, we celebrated the completion of a $27 million renovation that completely transformed the historic facility from top to bottom.

Thanks to the work and advocacy of , , , , Deputy Mayor Vanessa Garrett-Harley, , .phl staff, , and all of the community members who showed up to voice their opinion of what the community needed.

Improvements to Myers include:
-New lobby and restrooms
-New regulation size basketball gym
-New playgrounds and sprayground
-New community garden
-New tree plantings
-New walkways, site furniture, & site lighting
-Window replacement, with security grilles and exterior door replacement
-Roof repairs
-New exterior lighting and security camera system
-New plumbing systems throughout
-New electrical, mechanical fire alarm & fire protection systems throughout

On the Mayor Cherelle L. Parker 1,000th day in office, we broke ground on a more than $20 million investment in the heart of Kensington.

This investment didn't just happen, thanks to the work from Mayor Cherelle L. Parker , , , Philadelphia Parks & Recreation , Impact Services , Free Library of Philadelphia , , Senator Tina Tartaglione , , the Mattleman Foundation, and all of the community leaders and groups who made this happen.

Big upgrades are underway at the Cecil B. Moore Rec Center! The $20 million transformation includes demolition of the old facility and construction of a new, single-story 18,000 SF multi-purpose building.

Building Includes:
-Demolition of the existing building
-Construction of a new building, featuring:
-Basketball and volleyball gymnasium with spectator seating and scoreboards
-Multi-purpose classrooms with kitchenette and operable divider
-Computer lab
-Auditorium with platform stage
-New Furniture throughout center
-Boxing training room with new boxing ring and equipment
-Restrooms with ADA accessible stalls, lavatories, and changing tables
- ADA-accessible bathrooms for pool users

Exterior Includes:
-Resurfaced basketball courts
-New site entry and gathering plaza with custom seating
-New plantings, seating, and lawn areas
-New curb to prevent runoff between fields and hard courts
-Bike racks
- ADA-accessible path to pool deck and lift at the pool

As we settle into fall, we’re taking a moment to reflect on an incredible season of progress across Philadelphia.

This summer, we celebrated major milestones, transforming neighborhood spaces that will bring communities a safer, cleaner, and greener Philadelphia.

We cut the ribbon on completed projects at:

FJ Myers Recreation Center
Johnny Sample Recreation Center
West Mill Creek Playground

And, broke ground on new projects at:

Charles A. Russo Park
Cherashore Playground
Vogt Recreation Center

If you haven't seen the news or weren't able to attend, on Monday we held the groundbreaking for $21.7 million renovation of McPherson Library and Park.

This was a great event where City and local leaders spoke about what they are looking forward to with the completion of the renovation!

Yesterday, we celebrated Mayor Cherelle L. Parker 1,000th day in office and broke ground on a $21.7 million project at McPherson Library and Park.

Last week, we joined the Kensington community, Managing Director Carlton Williams, and Councilmember Quetcy Lozada on a beautiful fall day for a community day and cookout - our way of saying thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and expertise throughout the design process and for their patience as we renovate the library.

What a day at McPherson Square Library in Kensington!

We joined Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Managing Director Carlton Williams, Councilmember Quetcy Lozada, Impact Services, the Office of Senator Tina Tartaglione, Rep. Jose Giral, the Philadelphia Police Department, the Free Library of Philadelphia and community members to mark the Mayor's 1000th day in office with groundbreaking on a $21.7 MILLION project at the library.
