Earlier this week, we celebrated the completion of a $27 million renovation at Francis J. Myers Rec. Center, which included renovations that better serve the community.
Project highlights incudes:
- New playgrounds and spray ground
- New community garden
- New walkways, site furniture, & site lighting
- Repair and replacement of existing site fencing, stone retaining walls, asphalt driveways
- New windows and doors
- New lobby, kitchen, community room, computer room, staff offices, and flexible classroom spaces
- New regulation-size basketball gymnasium
- New HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
- ADA upgrades, including a new four-stop elevator
- New security, IT, and AV systems
- New fire alarm and fire protection systems
- LEED Gold certification, with full building electrification and energy-efficient, sustainable systems throughout
This transformation creates a safe, modern place for children and families to play and gather. Being over 100 years old, Francis J. Myers represents a piece of the neighborhoods history, and its has been shaped and sustained by generations of Southwest Philadelphia residents.
