Last month, broke ground on a $4 million investment at Cherashore Playground!

This project will transform the 5.2-acre site with improvements to the basketball and tennis courts, a new multi-purpose court, upgrades to the playground, a new adult fitness area, and a reconstructed walking path. The project also includes new landscaping, outdoor furnishings, and major upgrades to the recreation center, including modernized building systems and ADA accessibility improvements.

Thank you to the team at Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Go Mt. Airy, Councilman Anthony Phillips, Senator Sharif Street, Rep. Darisha Parker, and most importantly the community members who support this community every single day.

We're honored to see several City projects recognized for excellence in preservation, public investment, and community impact.

🏆 Kingsessing Library & Recreation Center received both the Grand Jury Award from the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia and the Outstanding Preservation Award from the University City Historical Society.

🏆 Rivera Recreation Center & Mann Older Adult Center received the Grand Jury Award from the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.

🏆 Capital Program Office Deputy Managing Director Aparna Palantino was recognized with the Trailblazer Award from the Management Association of America Mid-Atlantic Chapter.

These awards reflect the hard work of City staff, community members, designers, contractors, and partners who are helping preserve Philadelphia's historic assets while creating modern, accessible public spaces for future generations.

It was a great morning at West Mill Creek!

We joined our friends at Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, Senator Vincent Hughes, Creative Philadelphia to celebrate the completion of a $4.5 million project at West Mill Creek Playground!

The second and final phase of the renovations at West Mill Creek was completed in just six months, delivering a transformed playground and plaza. The first phase, completed in August 2025, repaired an essential retaining wall along with a renovated basketball court and fitness equipment.

Fun fact: Samaiah Locke really does not like heights.

Which made the final shot of this video - at the top of the City Hall tower - a particularly impressive act of courage.

Tonight, we’re celebrating Samaiah, who recently completed her internship with and her program with the City College for Municipal Employment (CCME) held in partnership with the Community College of Philadelphia!

Over the past several months, Samaiah supported the Capital Program Office and Rebuild team at community events, supported digital communications, and assisted our engagement team in building a database of neighborhood stakeholders near project sites.

The best part? Samaiah planned, produced, and starred in this video, encouraging others to explore CCME and the opportunities it can open.

Her message from the top of the tower: “Don’t be afraid. Go for it.”

We’re excited to share renderings of the future Carousel House Recreation Center, a transformational $44 million investment that will become Rebuild’s largest project to date, Philadelphia’s flagship recreation center, and one of the best universally accessible recreation facilities in the nation!

Designed with and for the disability community, families, neighbors, and program participants, the new Carousel House was shaped by hundreds of stakeholders and will deliver a world-class, fully accessible experience for people of all ages and abilities.

What’s coming:
• A 2-court gym with a mobility loop for walking and exercise
• A lap pool and activity pool with a sloping entrance into the water
• Adaptive fitness equipment, sensory rooms, and flexible program spaces
• Art & ceramics, computer, and multi-purpose rooms
• An inclusive playground designed for users of different ages and abilities

The new Carousel House is being designed through an adaptive reuse approach that honors the history of this beloved facility while expanding it to better serve future generations.

This is more than a renovation. It’s the return of a place that has meant so much to so many, and it’s a once-in-a-generation investment to create a space where every Philadelphian can participate and belong.

We’re cutting the ribbon at West Mill Creek Playground! 🎉

Join Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, the Capital Program Office, and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation to cut the ribbon on a transformed West Mill Creek Playground and Brown Street Plaza - phase two of a $4.5 million investment completed in just six months!

The renovations at West Mill Creek brought new playground equipment, basketball court improvements, public art, lighting, fencing, site furnishings, and greener, safer spaces for the community to gather, play, and connect.

Shout out to everyone who braved the rain today to break ground on a $5 million project at Russo Park - the third Rebuild groundbreaking in a month!

This project includes a new state-of-the-art turf field, basketball courts, site furnishings, lighting, critical stormwater infrastructure, and landscaping, including 89 new trees!

A big thank you to Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Councilmember Mike Driscoll, Rep. Pat Gallagher, Senator Joe Picozzi, Dr. Liz Pando and St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls. And, first and foremost, every community member who supports Russo.

Construction is moving at Cecil B. Moore Rec!

This $20 million project is receiving all the bells and whistles.

We’re building a brand-new, 15,000-square-foot recreation center complete with a basketball gym, boxing gym, computer lab, multi-purpose rooms, upgraded restrooms, and a new auditorium!

And that's not all - outside, the investment continues with:

• A refinished basketball court with upgraded lighting
• Expanded green space, new trees, and pedestrian pathways
• Improved accessibility and stormwater infrastructure
• New security cameras and site lighting
• A new pool lift and accessible connections throughout the site
• New gathering spaces, including an amphitheater with custom seating made from stone salvaged from the original building steps

That salvaged stone means a piece of C.B. Moore’s 100-year history will live on in the next generation of this space.

In April, we broke ground on an $8 million renovation of Joseph F. Vogt Recreation Center - another major investment in an essential neighborhood public space!

Originally built in 1965, the project will modernize the recreation center with upgraded building systems, accessibility improvements, a new playground, enhanced lighting and landscaping, and other site upgrades designed to support the neighborhood.

The Capital Program Office, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Councilmember Mike Driscoll, Senator Tina Tartaglione, Community Ventures, and Tacony residents came together to celebrate the start of construction.
