The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year, but its influence extends far beyond what we experience on land.

For migratory species like white sharks, seasonal changes in daylight can help signal broader ecosystem shifts. While the solstice itself may not trigger migration, it serves as an important seasonal milestone as animals respond to changing environmental conditions.

"For migratory sharks, the summer solstice isn't a starting guide. It's more of a seasonal clock that helps synchronize movements across the ecosystem," says OCEARCH Senior Data Scientist John Tyminski.
