Statement from the Mutiny Soccer Club Board of Directors
To our Mutiny families, coaches, sponsors and community:
Until now, the Board of Directors of Mutiny Soccer Club has intentionally refrained from making a public statement regarding a serious financial matter involving our former Treasurer, Nancy Fetzner. We did so to allow law enforcement to conduct its investigation without interference and to ensure that the information we shared with our community was responsible and accurate.
We are now able to provide our membership with additional information.
The Board discovered serious financial irregularities involving club funds. Upon discovering these concerns, we acted immediately.
Nancy Fetzner was immediately removed from her position as Treasurer, and her access to the club's financial accounts and systems was terminated. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office was notified immediately, and Mutiny Soccer Club has cooperated fully with law enforcement throughout its investigation.
We have now been informed that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Nancy Fetzner in connection with this investigation.
The club also retained an independent forensic accountant to conduct a comprehensive examination of our financial records and determine the full extent of the activity in question. We have hired a professional bookkeeper to manage the club's finances moving forward and have begun implementing additional financial controls and oversight.
Our Community Was Affected
The money involved is not simply numbers on a balance sheet.
These are funds entrusted to Mutiny Soccer Club by our families, sponsors, donors and community partners. They include registration fees, sponsorships and donations from businesses and individuals who chose to support our players and our mission.
Members of our own Board and their businesses are among those whose contributions are part of the financial review.
Our entire Mutiny community has been affected by this situation.
We are committed to determining exactly what occurred, assisting law enforcement in its investigation, pursuing every appropriate avenue to recover club funds and ensuring accountability through the appropriate legal process.
Mutiny Soccer Club Is Financially Stable
We also want to address something directly because we know this news may naturally cause families to wonder about the financial condition of the club:
Mutiny Soccer Club is not in financial trouble.
The club remains operational and financially capable of providing the programs and services our families expect.
Practices will continue. Games will continue. Our competitive and recreational programs will continue. Our commitments to our players and families will continue.
The alleged actions of one individual will not define Mutiny Soccer Club or determine our future.
Mutiny is much larger than any one person. Our organization consists of hundreds of players and families, dedicated coaches, volunteers, sponsors, community partners and Board members who care deeply about this club.
Moving Forward
This situation has also required us to examine our own financial procedures.
It is not enough for us simply to identify what occurred. As a Board, we have a responsibility to understand how it was able to occur and make the changes necessary to protect the organization going forward.
We have already begun strengthening our financial controls, increasing oversight and separating financial responsibilities so that club funds are subject to greater accountability.
The independent forensic review will continue, and we will continue cooperating fully with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office and any other authorities involved.
Because this remains an active law-enforcement matter, there are details we cannot responsibly discuss publicly. We will not speculate about criminal charges, the ultimate outcome of the investigation or a final amount involved until those facts have been established.
We understand that trust must be earned, particularly when families, businesses and community members entrust an organization with their money.
When the Board discovered this situation, we acted immediately. We did not ignore it, conceal it or delay reporting it.
We will continue to be transparent with our membership as additional information becomes appropriate to release.
Most importantly, our focus remains exactly where it belongs:
Our players. Our families. Our community.
This is a difficult chapter for Mutiny Soccer Club, but it will not define us.
Mutiny Soccer Club will move forward, and we are confident in the future of this organization.
Thank you to our families, coaches, volunteers, sponsors and community partners for your continued support of Mutiny Soccer Club.
