📣 FHIMA Advocacy Update

FHIMA is pleased to share that U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson has signed on to support the MATCH IT Act — an important step forward in strengthening patient matching and helping ensure health information is accurately connected to the right patient.

The MATCH IT Act supports greater standardization in patient matching, helping improve patient safety, privacy, interoperability, and the overall quality of care.

We thank Rep. Wilson for supporting this important legislation and for recognizing the critical role accurate health information plays in our healthcare system.

Together, we continue to advocate for policies that advance health information and empower better care.

The FHIMA Mentorship Program promotes communication and professional relationships between mentees, who are current members of FHIMA and are currently in a CAHIIM-approved HIA or HIT program, and mentors who are experienced, energetic and committed HI professionals willing to contribute to the future excellence of the HI profession. Mentors share their experiences, offer advice and encouragement, answer questions and act as leaders/advisors to the mentee in which they are assigned.

We’re thrilled to announce a big step forward in improving patient care with the 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗜𝗧 𝗔𝗰𝘁!

The MATCH IT Act of 2026 was introduced in the Senate today by Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Jim Banks (R-IN) as a companion bill to the House of Representatives’ version introduced prior.

The MATCH IT Act is vital in AHIMA’s commitment to addressing patient misidentification within the healthcare ecosystem. Patient misidentification compromises patient safety and privacy, while increasing costs to patients and providers. This bill would improve patient matching by standardizing how we measure patient match rates and how demographic data is captured in patients’ health records.

This introduction could not have happened without the work and advocacy of AHIMA members! Let’s continue making a difference together. You can help by writing letters to your members of Congress and sharing your story.
