We had the BEST time celebrating Halloween at all the local Trunk or Treats this year! From festive decorations and spooky fun to connecting with our amazing community, our Halloween season was filled with smiles, treats, and unforgettable memories.

We love getting out into the community, connecting with local families, and celebrating the partnerships that make North River such a special place. Thank you to everyone who made this Halloween season so much fun!

Why Prevention Matters | NRYC

Prevention matters because every young person deserves the opportunity to grow, thrive, and build a healthy future!

At the North River Youth Coalition (NRYC), we believe prevention is about so much more than saying “no” to alcohol, ni****ne, and other drugs. It’s about creating a community where young people feel supported, connected, empowered, and confident in the choices they make.

✨ Giving young people a voice and opportunities to lead.
✨ Providing education and resources to make informed decisions.
✨ Creating positive connections with peers and trusted adults.

Happy Red Ribbon Week from the North River Youth Coalition (NRYC)!

This Red Ribbon Week, we’re celebrating the power of making healthy choices, supporting one another, and building a brighter future for our community!

Prevention is about more than saying no to alcohol, ni****ne, and other drugs. It’s about saying YES to positive choices, strong friendships, supportive communities, and opportunities for young people to thrive!

Our NRYC youth ambassadors are proud to use their voices, lead by example, and inspire their peers to make healthy choices every day. Together, we can create a healthier, safer community where every young person has the support they need to succeed!

Celebrating Red Ribbon Week in the City of Palmetto!

A heartfelt thank-you to the City of Palmetto for proclaiming October 23–31 as Red Ribbon Week and for your continued support of North River Prevention Partners and the young people in our community!

Prevention is about so much more than saying no to alcohol, ni****ne, and other drugs. It’s about building strong families, creating supportive communities, fostering positive relationships with trusted adults, and providing meaningful opportunities for youth leadership. Most importantly, it’s about making sure young people know their voices matter.

Prevention starts with connection.

Creating a healthier, safer community is a responsibility we all share. Together, we can empower our youth, strengthen connections, and build a future where every young person feels supported, heard, and valued.

Thank you, City of Palmetto, for standing with us and helping spread the message that prevention starts with all of us!

It’s Never Too Early—or Too Late—to Talk About Va**ng

As teens grow, they make more decisions on their own and may face increased peer pressure and temptation. Even if it doesn’t always seem like it, your teen hears you—and your conversations matter.

Va**ng isn’t harmless. Many va**ng products contain ni****ne, which is highly addictive and can affect the developing teen brain. V**e aerosol can also contain other potentially harmful substances.

Why Do Teens V**e?

There are many reasons, including:
• Peer pressure or wanting to fit in
• Curiosity
• Appealing flavors
• The perception that va**ng is safer than smoking
• The discreet design of many va**ng devices

⚠️ Know the Risks

Ni****ne can lead to addiction and can affect brain development during adolescence. Some v**e products may also contain THC or other substances.

🗣️ Start the Conversation

You don’t need a perfect speech. Try:
✔️ Check in regularly and ask open-ended questions.
✔️ Talk during everyday moments—like in the car or over dinner.
✔️ Be clear about your expectations around va**ng and substance use.
✔️ Let your teen know you care and that they can come to you without fear of judgment.
✔️ Help them create an “exit plan” for uncomfortable situations, such as having a code word they can text when they need help.

The strongest prevention tool may be one you already have: an open, supportive relationship with your teen.

Start the conversation. Keep it going.
