“What happens when a family is forced to confront the truth of their own story?”

Now crowdfunding on Seed&Spark , Mah Nishtanah is a moving proof-of-concept short set during a Passover Seder in 1960s Pittsburgh, where one unexpected phone call transforms a night of warmth and ritual into a reckoning that will change a family forever.

Inspired by lived experience, the film explores family, faith, identity, resilience, and the emotional weight daughters often carry in keeping families together. While rooted in Jewish tradition, its story reaches far beyond one culture — speaking to anyone who has struggled between preserving connection and facing difficult truths.

The filmmakers are now crowdfunding on Seed&Spark to bring this feature-length vision to life.

🎬 What makes someone donate to an independent film after a single evening in someone’s home?

How do filmmakers turn one gathering into long-term support, momentum, and meaningful connections?

In the latest episode of The Art of Film Funding Podcast, Carole Dean sits down with Carole Joyce — two-time Telly Award–winning producer and Vice President of From The Heart Productions — to explore the surprising power of film funding parties.

This conversation goes far beyond fundraising.

✨ Build emotional connection with supporters
🎥 Present their project in a way people remember
🤝 Create authentic relationships that lead to funding
💡 Inspire audiences to become part of the journey

Many independent filmmakers spend years waiting for outside validation before fully trusting themselves.

Waiting for the right connection.
Waiting for investors.
Waiting for recognition.

But the filmmakers who keep growing are often the ones who learn to believe in their vision before the results appear.

That belief changes how you pitch.
How you network.
How you handle rejection.
How consistently you continue moving forward.

Success rarely begins with certainty. It often begins with belief.

From the Heart Productions is proud to announce SO EVER WARMLY as the winner of the 2026 Carole Dorothy Joyce Grant for Student Filmmakers.

Created by Yun Heo, a Korean filmmaker and first-year MFA student in Motion Pictures at the University of Miami, the film tells the story of a struggling writer who travels to the secluded home of his estranged, dying father to retrieve a final manuscript, only to confront memory, identity, and the emotional cost of ambition.

The film asks a powerful question:
Is it better to burn brightly and hurt those around you, or to live with quieter warmth and compassion?

As the grant recipient, Heo receives $3,000 in cash plus donated production support and discounts from generous industry supporters.

Thank you to the donors and heartfelt companies who continue supporting emerging filmmakers and meaningful storytelling. Congratulations to Yun Heo and the team behind SO EVER WARMLY. 🎬
