The mission of One Faith F

ellowship and of any Bible-based church is to be the representative body of God's Kingdom on earth. Jesus Christ inseparably linked the church to the kingdom of God when, in the first mention of the word “church” in the Bible, He simultaneously mentioned “the Kingdom of Heaven” in Matthew 16:18-19. That makes the church the embassy that embodies the culture of God’s Kingdom and the task force that advances God's Kingdom agenda on earth. Our Purpose - The purpose of the church is fourfold:

(1) Our purpose is to glorify God as Creator, King and Lord through congregational praise and worship (Isaiah 43:7; Acts 2:47; Rev. 4:11; Psalm 24:1-2,7-10). (2) Our purpose is the great commission of sharing the Gospel of the Kingdom by being witnesses of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). (3) Our purpose is to grow believers into the character of Christ, through Bible learning and teaching (Acts 2:42; 11:25-26; Ephesians 4:11-16). (4) Our purpose is to give ourselves in service to one another and to those in need as helpful expressions of God’s love and our faith (Galatians 5:13; 6:2,9-10; 1 John 3:16-18; James 2:14-17,26).

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are TRUE, whatever things are NOBLE, whatever things are JUST, whatever things are PURE, whatever things are LOVELY, whatever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there is any VIRTUE and if there is anything PRAISEWORTHY—think on these things." Philippians 4:8

Thinking carefully about the attributes of God as we praise and worship Him is a way of offering Him our minds. When we hear the psalmist say that God is "above all gods," let's try to wrap our minds around His OMNIPOTENCE, the fact that He is all-powerful.

Let's contemplate His OMNIPRESENCE. He is everywhere present. He's inescapably, marvelously near, all at once. And think on our God, the one God who alone is OMNISCIENT - knowing all there is to know, now and forever. What an absolutely mind-boggling thought!

Thought-filled worship will not lift us with pride. It will drive us to our knees!

Good day my brothers and sisters of One Faith. It dawned on me this week that there has not been a time when so many of our church family members have undergone or are scheduled for surgeries or medical procedures of various kinds. Let's arm ourselves, prayer warriors; this bombardment could be spiritual warfare from the enemy! I wouldn't put it past him.

Meanwhile, tomorrow is Next Generation Sunday, featuring Yahweh's Youth. Tomorrow's message titled "In His Presence" based on Psalm 16:11 will be delivered by Minister Eileen Morris. Remember to pray for the worship team, the youth, Sister Eileen, and our planned gathering for fellowship, praise and worship.

BIBLE BREAKFAST: PSALM 62:8, RUNNING TO THE LORD, devo by Tony Evans, edited

“Trust in [God] at all times, O people. Pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us. Selah” Psalm 62:8

Do bitter circumstances drive you to the Lord or away from Him? Hannah was crushed, but she ran in the right direction. Hannah's childlessness did not keep her from the Lord. This is the secret to the power of Hannah’s powerful prayer life.

Unfortunately, one of the things we’re tempted to do when things fall apart is avoid God’s presence, when He’s the One we need the most. Yes, it’s hard to pray when your heart is breaking. But that’s precisely when you need to pray the most.

But if you’ve never prayed with a broken heart or with a deep sense of your need, if you’ve never really poured out your heart before God, you haven’t really learned what the Bible means by prayer. See, you may be upset with God because nothing is happening. But if you turn away from Him, where are you going to go for an answer? Hannah had a problem only the Lord could fix, because He’s the one who allowed her to have this burden to bear in the first place. Prayer must be rooted in a complete understanding and acceptance of God’s sovereign Hand.
..Hannah couldn’t do a single thing about her situation except to pray.

And this was some prayer (1 Samuel 1:11)! We know how serious Hannah was about prayer because she made a vow to the Lord. She put it all on the line. This is not a “Now I lay me down to sleep” type of prayer. She promised to give her child back to God before she ever got pregnant.

When you’re willing to make an exchange with God—which is what a vow is—when you’re willing to make a promise to God that He can hold you to, then you’re getting serious about prayer. Most of us only pray like this when we have to. We go weeks and months without getting serious about prayer because we don’t think we need God that much. When we hit the wall, it all changes. Hannah’s pain caused her to run to God. She ran toward the solution to her heart’s cry.

BIBLE BREAKFAST: ECCLESIASTES 3:11, ETERNITY IN THE HUMAN HEART, devo by Charles Swindoll, edited

God has put eternity in our hearts. What does that mean?... Let’s expand the keyword eternity to mean “curiosity about our future.”

God has put within every human’s heart a curiosity about tomorrow, an eternal capacity that prompts us to probe, to be intrigued, to search. That explains why your child—just about the time he or she can talk—begins to ask questions about tomorrow, about life, and about life beyond. Children can ask the most profound questions. It’s the way God made them. And since we will not find out about tomorrow without God, our pursuit must be of Him.

You and I are not ready to handle life until we are ready to face death. When we get eternity securely in place, it’s remarkable what it will do to time.

Time has begun for you and me, but it hasn’t yet ended, by His grace. Are you ready for that moment when God will “blot out time and start the wheel of eternity”? What will be your secure confidence when God steps on the scene and announces, “Time shall be no more”? Read this next sentence carefully: “But as many as received Him (Christ), to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12 NASB 1995).

The gift of eternal life is there to be received. So take God’s gift while you still have time. Along with Solomon’s list of contrasts, there is still one more worth considering. There’s a time to reject and a time to accept. I urge you to make this your time to accept.

BIBLE BREAKFAST: ECCLESIASTES 3:11, BEAUTIFUL IN TIME, devo by Charles Swindoll, edited

"...God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end." Ecclesiastes 3:9–11

God has made everything appropriate (beautiful) in its time. That’s such an important, never-to-be-forgotten statement!...

How much we fail to see when we miss God’s timing! If I look at life strictly as it is laid out before me, if I fail to see it through the lens of faith, I shake my fist in God’s face. But when I see it through His eyes, in His time, the beautiful picture comes together; and as it does, I give Him praise.

I see purpose in tragedy. I see reason in calamity. I see His sovereign hand at work as He is reminding me He is still in charge. Then I willingly relinquish the controls to Him. So easy to say. So hard to do.

BIBLE BREAKFAST: 1 JOHN 1:6, HOW FELLOWSHIP DIFFERS FROM SALVATION, devo by Charles Stanley

"If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth." 1 John 1:6

John’s first epistle isn’t about salvation, even though it teaches the necessity of confessing sin. This letter was written to people who already had a relationship with God but needed a reminder of how to remain in fellowship with Him. The Father wants believers to enjoy His presence, but unconfessed sin can hinder that.

Christians have been made new (2 Cor. 5:17) but aren’t yet perfect and still struggle with temptation. Our physical bodies have natural desires for rest, food, and pleasure. When such yearnings are under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we live a joyful, God-honoring life. But when we allow them to control us, we step out of fellowship with Him and “walk in darkness” (1 John 1:6).

It’s important to understand that “walking in darkness” does not mean a believer can lose salvation... Rather, it means we’re choosing to live in a way that weakens our awareness of God’s presence.

Our Father wants us to be in fellowship with Him so we’ll experience fullness of joy. This happens when we spend time in His presence (Ps. 16:11), align ourselves with His will, and share Him with those around us. And if that fellowship is interrupted, confession can restore it... Confessing our sins restores us to the joy of (God's) presence.
