What does a utility actually look for before testing a new technology?

During Rally TWO, Fellows visited OUC’s Gardenia Innovation Center and Grid Integration Lab to get an inside look at how emerging technologies are evaluated in real-world utility environments.

One takeaway came through clearly: a strong technology is only part of the equation. Reliability, support, security, cost, rate impact, deployment requirements, and what happens when something fails all matter.

For founders building toward institutional customers, understanding how an organization evaluates risk can be just as important as understanding the problem you solve.

Thank you to OUC’s Emerging Technologies team for hosting our Fellows, sharing what you’re testing, and being so open about what it actually takes for new technologies to move from an idea to testing and potential deployment.

Last week, Rally’s Summer 2026 Fellows came together with leaders from across Central Florida for our Fall Co-Creation Lab at 4Roots Farm Education Center.

Across different teams, Fellows worked through real questions and opportunities alongside co-creators from government, business, nonprofits, education, healthcare, technology, philanthropy, and community organizations.

The result? Each Fellow left with a focused 90-day path forward.

And the work didn’t stop there. Co-creators committed introductions, resources, expertise, follow-up support, and potential pathways to pilots.

Thank you to everyone who brought their time, perspective, and connections into the room, and to 4Roots Farm Education Center, Orange County, the City of Orlando, and Central Florida Foundation for their continued partnership and support.

That’s a wrap on another Rally TWO!

Rally TWO brought our Summer 2026 Fellows to Orlando for three days of real-world experiences, conversations, and connections designed to help move their ventures forward.

Fellows spent time in one-on-one meetings, made local connections, and saw impact and innovation in practice through visits to 4Roots and OUC’s Gardenia Innovation Center. Just as importantly, they had time to connect as a cohort, strengthen relationships, and have some fun together at The Conduit and Primrose Lanes.

Rally TWO may be over, but the connections, insights, and next steps will continue throughout the rest of the Accelerator.
