Treatment on a sick common snapping turtle!
This poor old girl who could be 50 years old or more was seen in the same spot for over a month. The finder didn't know anything could be done but started to reach out to find help. The turtle was 2 hrs away so thankfully Fairl was amazing and helped hold this sick girl until a transport volunteer Brittany could make the trip! I take in reptiles from about 36 counties across Florida so I am forever grateful for transport volunteers!
Although we suspect this could be viral related often times what makes things worse is secondary bacterial infections!
The diagnostics and treatment plans are long and expensive whenever we get sick cases and sadly we get A LOT of them!
Please help us help them buy supporting, donating and sharing ❤️🐢

So happy to have been able to help Van make a full recovery from both west nile virus and 2 other life-threatening bacterial infections. It was a long road but we got there. He went from his hospital bed to his new home where he will get new accommodations by our friends at Bellowing Acres

A huge thank you to our volunteers Brent, Nadine, and Charles for helping breakdown the enclosure and transport everything to his new space.
And thank you Gabby Nikolle and Chris Gillette for taking Van on at your sanctuary!
GO Van!!!!

Some individuals may be familiar with Sally the bullfrog's background, but for those who are not, Sally was involved in an incident with a pool filter. Following a period in captivity, he was relocated to our facility and has since regained considerable strength, enabling us to transfer him to a more natural environment. If his progress continues, there is a possibility that he may be eligible for release. In the meantime, he is thriving at Swamp Girls Headquarters.
Let's give show Sally some love and encouragement!

During busy periods, I manage multiple fracture stabilizations daily. Both these cases were vehicle-related incidents. A female carrying eggs was struck on the roadside, and a male seeking shade under a car was accidentally backed into. It's crucial to check under vehicles and stay alert while driving! 🚗

We are pleased to report on the progress of a young alligator with a birth defect resulting in the loss of half of its tongue, which has now learned to eat independently. This achievement is a testament to the resilience of this remarkable creature. Additionally, notable progress has been observed in the use of its left back leg, which had suffered a femur fracture. The leg is healing well and strengthening daily. Your support is crucial in enabling us to provide care for wildlife in need, and donations can be made through our site or via Facebook fundraisers.
Rehab under proper permitting.

Happy world turtle day! 🐢🐢🐢
First off, its illegal to keep gopher tortoises as pets and there is protection for most of our aquatic turtles in Florida as well! Don't take wild animals and keep them as pets! No matter the species!
Metabolic bone disease and improper care nutrition is a problem, not only for wild animals taken into captivity, but also animals purchased as pets through pet stores. Education is key.

Dog bites/ chewing is the second most common reason turtles and tortoises come in for care to hit by car. Although accents can happen, it is a preventable situation. Training of the dog/s and walking the dog on leash around property to check for wildlife before letting off leash are great ways to prevent these situations. We had 10 cases just this past week!
This tortoise thankfully fully recovered but had a 2 month fight to prevent infection and heal up as best as possible considering the extent of the damage. Many don't survive due to infection or the severity of damage done.

Well another bloated gator surgery and endoscopy done. This poor girl had lead weights and fishing lures in her stomach not to mention the fecaliths and bloat! Dr. Kushnir did the surgery.
This has been an ongoing study trying to figure out why this is happening and no hard answers yet but we are trying and new test on this girl thanks to a lab in Vegas!
Endoscopy Support Services, Inc. Helped us get the endoscope that I used to retrieve both fishing lure and the lead weights. A valuable tool in these cases! Please show them some love ❤️
