Jake's Journey Home Connect w/ Unhoused Veterans & community persons to provide wrap-around services 4 change. Our mission is simple:
Connect. Respect. Assist.

On September 1, 2019, my son Jake Shuman, a SeaBee Veteran and small business owner passed away unexpectedly---leaving behind loving friends and family, as well as a legacy of empathy, generosity and humility. Jake Shuman’s larger than life personality, entrepreneurial spirit and aggressive work ethic imparted a sense of “you are important to me.” As someone always willing to share time, resources

and opportunities; respect was at the very heart and essence of my son. While he is in a better place now, our nonprofit: Jake’s Journey Home is going to continue Jake Shuman’s legacy of doing what you can to help someone’s tomorrow be better than today. Connect with unhoused persons- veterans or community members through respect & coordination of services. Providing assistance for "wrap-around services" (including inpatient, day treatment, mental health, therapy, medical, job/vocational skills, higher education, basic needs ((food, DMV, SS, cards)) and peer support to create a change. These services allow us at the very least, to make sure that someone’s tomorrow is better than today.

SUPPORTING Jake's Journey Home helps to support our folks. Interesting week- starts with 100 meals- 72 interactions- 18 case management updates-4 pairs of shoes, 1 divorce filing paperwork- 12 ID Vouchers, 6 applying for jobs. 3 found jobs-1 into residential- 1 vehicle assist- 4 court collaborations-4 referrals from Hart- 3 referrals from Powerhouse-5 website assists-4 referrals from 211. 2 rentals assists- 2 gasoline assists for work. 6 housing referrals- 1 late night delivery of an ID that came in through our mail system- 3 calls to thank us for what we do. 🚲 VOLUNTEER WANTED 🚲

Jake's Journey Home is looking for a bicycle-loving hero to help with our Bicycle Program!

Pay: The same amount your grandparents paid to walk uphill both ways to school. 😄

What we're looking for:
🔧 Someone who knows how to fix bikes—or at least isn't afraid to wrestle with a stubborn chain.
🚚 Someone who may be willing to help deliver bicycles to people who need them.
☕ Someone fueled by coffee, tea, or pure determination.
🩶 Someone whose hair doesn't turn gray after hearing, "It was working yesterday."
❤️ Someone with a good heart and a desire to help others.

Requirements:
🚫 No singing.
🚫 No Tour de France experience necessary.

Whether you're an experienced bike mechanic, a weekend tinkerer, or just someone willing to learn, we'd love to talk with you. Every bike we repair and deliver helps someone get to work, school, appointments, and a better future.

Red. White & Blue! Check out these two incredible ladies leading the way at this year’s Red, White & Blue Parade!

We’re proud to celebrate County and Jeanne Shuman of and Jake’s Journey Home as this year’s Grand Marshals. Both have poured so much into our community and continue to make Orangevale a better place for so many.

Join us Saturday, May 30 for one of Orangevale’s favorite traditions. The parade starts at 9 AM and travels down Greenback Lane from Main Avenue to Filbert Avenue.

Road closures begin at 8 AM, so come early and grab your spot along the route. Bring your chairs, bring the family, and enjoy a morning filled with community spirit, hometown pride, and plenty of smiles.

When you start your day finding a human being laying out in the parking- in agony, asking for help. No one stopped. The stares. 👀 Of course you calm them down- call an 🚑 and wait. Yet, you continue to reassure them, listen to their story, and tell them not to lose hope. They had a housing assessment today- potential answer to prayers, but God has other plans today. Please pray for this person that they find peace in their life. Everyone is deserving of it. 😞 Jake’s Journey Home is praying. How about you?
