Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands We create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

For more than 60 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As a donor and volunteer-supported organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 7 through 21, throughout the Omaha/Council Bluffs and L

incoln metro areas. We develop positive friendships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers, and others in the community, we are accountable for each child in our program achieving:
- Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships
- Avoidance of risky behaviors
- Educational success

MISSION

⚾ Talk about a home run experience! ⚾

Thanks to our friends at Fiserv and board member Amy Steffen, several of our Bigs and Littles got to enjoy a wonderful day at the College World Series, cheering on Troy vs. Ole Miss together!

Not only did Fiserv generously donate game tickets, but they also welcomed our matches into their hospitality tent, complete with food, drinks, ice cream, swag bags, and more.

Thank you, Fiserv, for stepping up to the plate and knocking it out of the park for our matches! 👏

💚 Need a reason to smile today? We got one!

Today, we wanted to share a feel-good story about a former match, Big Nate and Little Jacob. Their match officially closed last year when Jacob graduated high school and joined the Navy, but the bond they built through mentoring has continued. Recently, they reunited for lunch and enjoyed catching up.

Jacob is currently participating in a seven-year Navy program, where he’s earning his degree while serving. He is currently stationed in Florida and previously spent time stationed in Japan. Next, he’ll have the opportunity to travel to Spain and Italy. He is enjoying the experience, meeting new people, and building his skills working on aircraft electrical systems.

Stories like Nate and Jacob's remind us that mentorship doesn't end when a match closes. The connection, encouragement, and support built through mentoring can last a lifetime.
