We have been involved with Humanity Showers on Wednesdays for quite some time now. Currently Convicted 4 Christ Ministries oversees that outreach. To call it organized chaos would probably be giving it too much structure. At least from the outside, I’m sure that’s how it looks sometimes.
But truthfully, there’s something really unique about the approach. Actually, I take that back. It’s not unique at all. It’s been around since Jesus gave us the Gospel. The least is the greatest.
I just wanna share something really quick that happened this week, even though honestly it’s not uncommon on Wednesdays.
We’ve been working with somebody for a long time. The kind of person that a lot of places probably would’ve banned, turned away, or just eventually given up on. And when I say a long time, I mean probably around five years.
This person had never gone to treatment for addiction in their life. Had been homeless for a very long time.
This week they entered a residential treatment program.
It took over a week to secure the bed when normally it doesn’t take nearly that long. One obstacle after another kept coming up. But every obstacle got walked through and overcome.
I don’t know what’s gonna come from this. I really don’t. I know for myself it took I can’t even tell you how many attempts to finally get clean. But this is a beginning, and with beginnings comes hope.
Had we turned this person away or pushed them aside somewhere along the journey, the opportunity may not have been there when that moment of clarity finally came. And in that moment, when they were ready to surrender and ask for help, there needed to be people willing to walk with them through it.
That’s what Wednesdays are about. We try to create an atmosphere where people aren’t pushed away. We wanna be a place where when somebody is finally ready, in what we always call God’s timing, we get the privilege of participating in that moment where the Kingdom of God rules and reigns and somebody’s life may never be the same.
Thank you Jordan Verdin for what you created. Thank you for your conviction and dedication. I hope I honor it well.
