EBAYC Support all youth be to be safe, smart, and socially responsible. Our mission is to empower young people to lead safe and socially responsible lives.

EBAYC envisions all young people growing up to be lifelong builders of a just and compassionate multicultural society. Working at the intersection of race and place, EBAYC supports all young people who are in low-wealth and high-stress communities where a significant population of Asian youth are present. EBAYC serves a racially and culturally diverse membership of over 2,500 young people each year, of whom the vast majority reside in Oakland’s San Antonio community and in South Sacramento. EBAYC seeks to impact the lives of young people we serve through our implementation of a comprehensive place-based strategy of:
-Supporting young people most impacted by generational poverty,
violence, and forced migration through intensive outreach, life
coaching, and wraparound supports.
-Supporting all young people by providing out-of-school-time
learning opportunities and wraparound supports to young people
and their families, in partnership with neighborhood public
schools.
-Supporting all families by improving the quality of life in their
neighborhoods through collective participatory action.

Phones down, notebooks open. 📚

Every afternoon, these students at Urban Promise Academy claim a little time that's just theirs. Some days it's knocking out math homework. Some days it's studying for a test. And some days it's just talking: about school, friends, and whatever's on their minds.

The only rule? No phones. What's left is focus, connection, and a space where young people can show up exactly as they are.
This is what after school looks like at EBAYC. ☀️

Small hands, big creativity! 🧺✨

Our third graders in EBAYC’s after-school program at Garfield Elementary got creative making handwoven paper plate baskets during their Practice-Based Learning Block!

Weaving each strip gave students a chance to practice patience, focus, and fine motor skills while turning everyday materials into something uniquely their own. 💙

💙 Celebrating Shop 55!

Last Friday, our Shop 55 Wellness Center at Oakland High School was recognized by Oakland Thrives and Blue Shield of California for the impact it’s making in the lives of Oakland youth!

This recognition celebrates the everyday work of creating a safe, supportive space where students feel seen, supported, and connected to the care and resources they need to thrive.

We’re grateful to our Shop 55 team, our partners, and the community that continues to invest in our young people and believe in their potential.

Thank you, Oakland Thrives and Blue Shield of California, for this wonderful recognition of our work! 🙌🏽

Every great ride starts with the basics. 🛠️🚲

In partnership with , 10 youth in EBAYC’s new Outdoor Recreation Apprenticeship learned bike saety, maintenance, and riding skills before heading outdoors to put them into practice.

This was their first day of training. Over the next couple of months, they’ll build on these skills as they prepare to lead bike rides for younger youth. 💛

Helmets on, wheels rolling, and future ride leaders in training! 🚴🏽🌲

EBAYC partnered with to take 10 youth in our new Outdoor Recreation Apprenticeship out for their first day of training. They learned bike safety, practiced their skills, and hit the trail together.

In the coming months, these apprentices will lead bike rides for younger youth. Friday’s ride was their first step toward making that happen. 💛
