The Bikery is the Cycles of Change collectively run, not-for-profit community bike shop in Oakland! We offer a range of affordable used bikes for sale, repairs, classes, and community events. We also have a repair space where you can sign up and use tools to work on your own bike! At The Bikery we believe bikes are a necessary and creative part of movement building as we work toward social and env

ironmental justice in our community. The Bikery intentionally centers the leadership of people of color, youth, women, trans and genderqueer folk, and people from Oakland and the Bay Area. We are honored to be working together with interns and volunteers from local high schools to develop skills in bike mechanics, environmental stewardship, and experience participating in a collectively-run business. Please drop by to check us out and spread the word— join our community!

Cycles of Change will be at Sea Otter again this year!

We are proud to bring our people and perspective to the largest cycling festival in the world. According to us, collective governance and BIPOC leadership is some of the fanciest bike tech out there and we’re stoked to show off all the cool new features of our programs. Thanks to the Sea Otter team for working with us to make it happen!

Please come to our booth to say hi and check out all our “freshly baked” goodies including shirts, stickers, and special limited edition spoke cards!

Shout out to staff members Lola for the mariposx mascot, Michelle for the text, and community member Luca for the otter design.

To celebrate our Save The B’s campaign, we are learning about the different roles of bees in the hive, and comparing them to the different types of bikers out there.

This week, we are looking at GUARD BEES, which protect the hive from unwanted intruders. They are often found at the entrance of the hive with their front legs raised, popping a bee wheelie, or beelie as some would say.

Now let’s compare with our resident wheelie expert Taj, often found with their front wheel up, or in the shop protecting bikes from breaking down.

Who did it best? Comment beelow!

These bee roles also correspond with different sustainer levels. Bees remind us that when we lean into our strengths and come together for the sake of the hive, something sweet and nourishing is made. Don’t forget to sign up for our beehive tour on April 19th, and please share our campaign link with your friends.
